The Race (to the bottom)
I meant to post this in the Bucks thread but then it occurred to me that a thread to track all the late season excitement this franchise has in store for us might be worth its own thread.
It's a tight race and some great story lines developing here late in the season.
For the Wizards the next 5 game could prove to be crucial because there's a real chance they might still catch San Antonio for the 8th overall and once they face the Magic the odds of securing another win dwindle dramatically.
Spurs next 5:
@Pelicans
@Rockets
vs. Grizzlies
vs. Blazers
vs. Blazers
Wizards remaining:
@Bucks
@Pistons
vs. Warriors
vs. Bulls
vs. Magic
vs. Mavericks
@Celtics
@Timberwolves
@Hawks
vs. Knicks
@Hornets
The Lakers scare me a bit.
They have a rough final stretch of games and could really **** up the Wizards lottery odds.
@Pelicans
@Mavericks
@Jazz
vs. Pelicans
vs. Nuggets
@Suns
@Warriors
vs. Thunder
@Nuggets

Yes, the 8th seed is still possible, which would give us decent odds for a top 4 pick. I run Tankathon 5 times this morning and the 8th spot got us: 9th, 10th, 1st, 3rd and 8th.
In our tank lieutenants (Neto and Ish) and commander (Wes) we trust!

They need to shut down Porzingis for the season. There is literally no upside and only downside if he plays. He is one of the most fragile players in the league, and playing him in useless tanking games is playing with fire.

Yeah. Plus depending on matchup, Porzingis will actually win a couple games by himself too. We can't have that shyt happening.

Re: The Race (to the bottom)
The 8th slot is going to turn into one of Keegan Murray or Shaedon Sharpe, and I personally consider both of those guys to be A level prospects that could change the franchise. Really would love to land Sharpe. He’s a Paul George clone and a nice fit between Beal and Porzingis.

Hope Wes is intentionally tanking and this isn’t his best coaching

Re: The Race (to the bottom)
David Griffin went from on the hot seat to looking like a genius.
Adding McCollum for dimes on the dollar, Lakers lottery pick incoming, I could see New Orleans making some noise next season if they manage to keep Zion away from those Krispy Kremes.
Anthony Davis, has there been a bigger disappointment than him since he won that bubble championship with the Lakers two years ago?

Key words there are he won the Championship 2 years ago. I think that exempts him from being labelled a disappointment.

No need to worry about the Lakers -- the league is going to give them the top pick via the ping pong balls.

That means the Pelicans are picking #1. Remember, the Pelicans own the pick if it’s 1-10 from the Davis trade.

Re: The Race (to the bottom)
Knicks will win today moving us to sole possession of 10th. The Spurs unfortunately down 8 at halftime with Murray out with an illness against POR at home. If they can pull that one out, we are a game out of 9th with the Spurs owning the season series, but they'll have a tough close to the season facing 4 playoff teams. Another big contest to keep tabs on is NO versus the Clips tonight as well.
Lakers are just about cooked. James only plays every couple of game so he can give maximum energy in his quest for a arbitrary scoring title. It's going to be tough to beat them out for 8th at this point. I think we'd have to lose out and them win out. Good thing is 8th and 9th aren't too big of differences for chances to jump up.
*Update: San Antonio will win easily. A game out of 9th.

Re: The Race (to the bottom)
That Lakers schedule looked daunting when I started this thread and the Lakers have all but conceded the season since.
Not a chance we'll catch them for the 8th, so 9th worst is the best the Wizards can hope for right now.
Even that seems out of reach right now when you look at the Spurs remaining schedule.
@Nuggets
@Timberwolves
vs.Warriors
@Mavericks
What has me a bit worried right now are the Knicks, a surprise win against the Nets would probably clinch the 10th for Washington because with lottery odds on the line in the Wizards last home game against the Knicks a win is virtually guaranteed.
Come on Spurs, come on Knicks, against all odds, come on Lakers too!

I thought the word was basically Zion just doesn't want to play for Nawlins

Half a game out of 9th. It’s so important to lose out.

The Knicks have won 5 straight on the road.
Law of averages.... sigh.
Watch Porzingis drop 50.

Re: The Race (to the bottom)
If we lose to Charlotte and the Spurs win in Dallas we’ll be tied. The league would give us equal odds to move up and do a coin flip for the position 9/10 if neither gets into the top 4 correct?
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.
