I mean if you have Kareem and Worthy as targets, it is easy to make plays right?

kareem and worthy were actually capable of creating their offense so they didnt need magic aa much
it was everyone else who beneffitted most from magic playmaking, also his full court game which got a Tom Ton of buckets to teammates

Magic peaked when Kareem was washed up or out of the league, while Worthy wasn't really better than other stars ATGs played with.
Yes, Magic is the best playmaker ever. When stats prove what you see, I don't think you should complicate it too much.

Kidds absolute peak would've been an average year for Magic, and once Kidd actually started scoring he never got close to that level again.

Magics size, length and speed was a huge factor in what made him stand out because it made it that much harder for defenders to try to figure out what he was going to do. If they tried to defend him like a typical point guard he could surprise them by doing post up foot work, if they tried to defend him as a big he'd send the ball flying over to the actual big or any other open teammate just like that to get the team that bucket.

This is actually one of the few things along this line that's not debatable. But the door is open for better. There can be a better Magic Johnson simply by increasing his athleticism.

Re: Is Magic Johnson really the GOAT in playmaking?
The one thing that stands out to me watching Magic is how nimble and fluid he is for his size. LeBron moves like a guard for a big man but Magic moves like a point guard with a 6'9 frame. Not as explosive obviously, but his fluidity and coordination was all-time freak level relative to his size. Combine with arguably the best vision of all time and yeah that sounds about what the GOAT playmaker looks like. Only guy that combines his size and vision honestly is Jokic but he doesn't have Magic's mobility. LeBron is of course another contender but I think Magic is just a half-step as a playmaker above him. Although I think Bron is a more complete offensive player, and he's great at the most important passes in the game: PNR and corner skip passes.
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

I think the poster might have been tongue in cheek, if not then I don't know how that comment makes sense.
Kidd was a great passer with great vision, but his playmaking and breaking down of defense was also less proficient than some if his top PG peers

I think it's Magic, then Nash. After that, it's a noticeable drop to the next level down.

I think CP3, Draymond and Jokic are a better playmakers than Nash

CP3 is more like Stockton than Nash. Both CP3 and Stockton are conservative passers, they rarely take risks, and they're more likely to get Rondo vanilla assists than actually pass people open.
And Draymond? That's a no dawg.
Jokic might be comparable to Nash but I would disagree.

Magic could very well claim to be the GOAT in general. A basketball wizard, I gather you could put him in right now and he'd make someone look like a fool even for a couple of plays. He is beyond ''playmaking''

Re: Is Magic Johnson really the GOAT in playmaking?
Magic Johnson played in an era when a no-look or a behind the back pass was something that only basketball geniuses (of that time) even attempted. Fans would lose their mind if a player other than a point guard dribble the ball between the legs. We should acknowledge how good he was against his competition but also realize that Magic played a completely different game than what's being played right now.
