Tyler Goodson I think has some nice third down back and special teams potential

I'm assuming a bunch of ST candidates as the core. Any potential punt/kick returners in this lot?

Former Badgers
Jack Sanborn signed on with the Bears
Josh Seltzner with the Colts
Cesar Williams with the Rams
Scott Nelson with the Seahawks

Five? were drafted: Chenal, Bruss, Ferguson, Henningsen, and Hicks.

Any other Wisconsin U guys, other than Badgers?

*edit*
Jack Coan to the Colts

One of them was quite the punt returner in high school. . . otherwise, I don't think so.

Looks like a lot of guys w/ special teams history. It's going to be wild to (hopefully) see a Packer team w/ a respectable ST.

Tre Sterling was good before he missed much of last year with a wrist injury. He might be a dark horse.

I see on Packers.com's "5-things learned during Rookie Camp" that two of the UDFA's are described as long snappers.
https://www.packers.com/news/5-things-learned-during-packers-rookie-minicamp

Georgia Tech long snapper Jack Coco (6'2" 232lbs), Troy long snapper Cameron Kaye(6'2" 225 lbs)

IMO, borrowing from that ancient commercial: "Where's the beef!"

Long snappers are small these days. Way back when, it was the starting or backup C doing the snapping. With rules protecting the LS, they don't need to worry about opposing players steamrolling them, but have to get down the field to make tackles (on punts).
And those two guys were tryout guys, not signed UDFA.

I understand the rules prevent the defensive players from directly attacking the long snapper head on (more or less), but doesn't that also mean the gaps on either side need to be covered in some fashion by the guards? If you've got a lighter bodied center, then the guards have more work to do. The punts/kicks should be bang-bang, but often I've seen bull-rushes from the middle of the line towards the kickers, as well as from outside. (That's my casual observation).

Of course, consistent and accurate placement of the snap is the main event for the long snapper, but making sure no rusher leaks through the middles seems to me to be second on the list and the downfield pursuit part of the punt returner third. I'm greedy, I'd like the long snapper to be big enough to do all three very well. :D

Good point on the tryout status.

Non sequiter comment: being of Norske heritage, every time I see this threads header, I first think "Uffda" rather than "UDFA".

Oh thanks for the bump. I was watching him bust that TD run and thinking 'I KNEW IT' yesterday.

He has a good shot to stick. Although MLF said today that special teams will play a role in the third back decision and Goodson is not good at ST, at least so far.
