Who do you want us to take at #1?

Post#1 » by Airgordon00 » Wed May 18, 2022 1:57 am

I personally would take a roll of the dice on Shaedon Sharpe. I just have a feeling watching him that he could be a superstar and I just don’t get those vibes from Chet, Jabari or paolo. I think they all have potential to be good to very good nba players but not top of the mountain good.

If you want Sharpe at 1 you explore trading down a few spots to 3 or 4 imo.

If they really think Sharpe is the best prospect, trading down is the only option. You can't take Sharpe at #1. Now, if you can get 3, 17, and Sengun for #1, now you have my attention.

I like Jabari at #1.

The Magic scouting department has to evaluate with precision, because trading down is an option in this kind of draft.

I voted other. I think the Magic should trade down.

Magic trade: 1, 35
Rockets trade: 3, 17, unprotected future 1st

This would definitely be my goal if weltham falls in love with Sharpe. Pick the player they want plus add another asset to our bank.

I voted for Jabari Smith. He could be a great fit to our young core.

But I am sure about his ceiling and potential. He is a shooter of course. But Banchero has more upside and potential. So I am not so sure.

Maybe we will be clearer close to the draft. Maybe we can trade down to get more assets

Instant knee jerk reaction. I want Orlando to draft Jabari if they don’t plan on trading the pick.

You could make an argument that he’s the best fit/prospect in the draft for the Magic.

Not a fan of a Chet/WCJr front court. Not a fan of Paolo with Orlando’s lack of spacing. Maybe I’ll change my mind before draft night.

I definetly want Jabari Smith at #1, I be ok with Chet and maybe Paolo but it just makes sense now to take Jabari Smith. YO UCF basketball played Auburn on December 1st at their place and UCF lost so UCF did get to play against Jabari Smith. We can invite Jabari to UCF basketball games also. I was at a home game and it was vs Michigan, Memphis or Houston when MO Bamba, Cole Anthony and RJ Hampton were all in attendance. So YO we got those 3 magic players to come to a UCF basketball home game, We can get Jabari Smith to come to a UCF home game.

As we've discussed in the playoff thread, 3&D is the name of the game these days. Jabari does that extremely well.

It’s right there take Jabari slot him in and be thrilled.

Fultz
Suggs
Franz
Jabari
WCJ

That is a young solid line with actual spacing in Jabari & Franz. Should open a lot for this young team.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

This is a hard decision. Number 1 does have that one bit of difficulty, no Shaq or a clear cut number 1 like the old days. I think it’s Jabari, but Jaden Ivey can provide that scorer for the 2 spot we’ve needed. Tough work ahead for Magic brass but to me Jabari is drawing comparisons to Rashard Lewis and Chris Bosh. That is difficult to pass up.

Look on it from a historical perspective. We were #1 in a draft just after there was a clear cut #1 pick before being nicknamed " the king "

So we were debating between a ncca champ with readt tools and body vs a skinny atheltic kid with braces.

Let's have faith. Lol

I've been in the Jabari Smith camp for a bit now.

The Magic will do their research and go through the process though.

They have to get a star and feel it's Smith.

Got to be Jabari. Has the build, the jumpshot the athleticism.

I could be talked into Banchero, but hell no to Chet.

Watching the tape, Jabari leaps out as a player light years beyond his age for defense and shooting stroke. I could see superstar potential in him if he is developed well. He is my far and away choice at number 1 right now. If the Magic draft him, I think the future is bright and we have found a strong potential team leader. The player his tape reminded me most of was a proto-Kevin Durant, as their shooting stroke is nearly identical. Amp up his aggressiveness and the sky is the limit for him.

Paolo Banchero will be a solid player. We could certainly do worse than him with the pick. I could very much see a situation where he blows the doors off of his workouts and is the choice. Right now he is my number 2, but I would not be super surprised if the Magic become enamored. While I do like Smith’s potential and defense more, Banchero certainly has that fire you look for in a franchise player.

Holmgren’s body concerns me. I’ve watched Porzingis a LOT over the years and Holmgren reminds me a lot of him with better handles. The problem with Porzingis (besides his cockiness and awful brother agent) has always been his physical health. The lack of muscle and long limbs taxed the hell out of his knees and joints over the course of an NBA season and now Porzingis’ body isn’t dependable enough to be counted on. The ones banging the table for Holmgren need to pause and look behind the tape. -and yes muscle weight will further tax those joints. I would not draft Holmgren number 1.

My last outside pick is Ivey. There is little chance the Magic draft him, but I see strong James Harden (sans mental problems) potential in him. I would not be shocked if the top pick ultimately comes down to Smith, Banchero and Ivey when it comes down to it and whomever gets Ivey is getting a super strong player.

I wish we were debating Cade vs Green instead of this crop... I'm glad we won but still underwhelmed by the prospects.
