If you were making 2 all time fantasy drafts based on what we know of a players entire career and another based solely on what we knew of each player leading up to the draft what would your 2 drafts look like. *for any era not specific to their own.
(For example)
Based on what we know off a players entire career.
1. Kareem
2. Lebron
3. MJ
4. Russell
5. Duncan
6. Magic/Hakeem/Shaq
9. Wilt
10. Kobe
*(In the running) Bird/kg/west/oscar
Based only off what we knew of each player before their actual draft.
1. Kareem
2. *Lebron him coming out of high school makes me unsure but definitely between 2nd - 5th pick
3. Wilt
4. Shaq
5. Walton
6. Magic/Ewing/Oden/Sampson/Duncan * again not sure of the rankings of this cluster. (I would have D-Robinson up there if not for military requirements. Also Sabonis and the uncertainty of when he’d actually come over.

Re: (2) All time top 10 fantasy drafts
I don't remember the hype for Shaq coming out being anywhere close to the hype for Walton, or even Ewing for that matter. People were excited because he was such an incredible physical specimen but I didn't get the impression that people thought he was a lock to be top 10 all-time (which he is!) the way I did for Kareem, Walton, Ewing. Even Sampson, while people had more questions, others thought he would change the way the game was played.

This is just one of Many. If you don’t know who Marty Blake is he was the nbas scout. He doesn’t scout for a specific team but for the actual league and was dubbed the super scout for how great his eye was (he was the main reason John Stockton was drafted from a no name school at the time (Gonzaga) as well as scouting all the way back to bill Russell. And had scouted wilt Kareem Hakeem Ewing and flat out said at the time that shaq was the best sophomore center he had ever seen. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-01-31-sp-175-story.html

I remember listening to Marty Blake's predraft predictions every year on the radio. I consider him an excellent source so maybe my hype meter was just not as attuned that year. Thanks.

Same here. I think Shaq suffered slightly from not playing for a blue blood university as well as not getting past the 2nd rd. Of the tournament. But all the scouting gurus as well as nba personnel were talking at the time of Shaq being that clear cut generational talent with few if any precedents from previous eras.
