Kyle Lowry vs Jrue Holiday

Post#1 » by KIRAG » Sun May 22, 2022 7:32 pm

Hypothetical scenario:

You can only choose one of Jrue or Kyle to sign for only a year's window as the missing piece to the championship caliber team you are building for that year. Assuming they are getting paid the same exact amount, which player will you choose?

If it's for next year give me Holiday because Lowry is going on 37 and Jrue is still in his prime, but Lowry has undoubtedly been a better player for the last 8 years or so

If they were both in their prime, Lowry easily. But as they are now? Gotta go with Holiday on this one.

Yep, prime v prime, Kyle Lowry.

Current v current, Jrue Holiday.

Old Lowry is absolutely needed on this roster, but he has become injury prone sadly. He's so effective when he plays for us.

primes, Lowry,

today, Jrue.

Jrue is younger (31/32) and still is athletic (Lowry wasnt known for his athleticism but now its non-existent, I'd go with Jrue.

Lowry while still savvy, is 36 and is 37 next playoffs. What Lowry gives you is his experience/BBIQ which can still help teams and he can drain the open 3 if you dare him while being really good at finding his guys/directing the offense which is really all you can ask for from a vet floor general.

Anyways I'm going with Jrue as he's a legit 3rd option on a championship team.

I've always gotten the impression that Holiday is one of the more beloved and respected PGs, if not players in general, amongst his peers and fans alike. He was widely considered the most underrated and best defenders at his position for many years so I would expect him to run away with this poll. I voted for him also

Now? Sure. Prime? Lowry had had more individual success and team success. Lowry was simply better than Jrue if you compare primes.

I agree with the advanced stats on Holiday. Nothing special at all. As solid as he is in the post and with his excellent footwork he’s still slightly overrated as a defender. Limited vision, no FTs, streaky outside shot.

Also in lockstep with advanced metrics’ opinion of Lowry: consistently very good starter/ winner. His screening and ability to get over screens alone pay huge team dividends.

You're looking at the wrong advanced stats if they aren't high on Holiday. Impact stats are incredibly high on him (as they were Lowry).

As others mentioned, definitely Jrue at this point. Lowry by a smallish but clear margin in his prime

You could say the exact same thing about Lowry though. A lot of his teammates have had nothing but great things to say about him. He was always consistently one of the best defenders at his position, and he never really got the credit he deserved for the way he led Toronto to multiple 50 win seasons.

Love Jrue but I probably only take him over prime Lowry if I have someone else to run the offense and he can play off-ball a little more/be a secondary playmaker.

Jrue’s decision-making as a PG is sometimes questionable, while Lowry makes everyone else better on offense.

Prefer Jrue defensively, but Kyle is no slouch obviously, and his impact on team offense makes up for it.

OTOH, w Lowry you have to put up w him flopping and trying climb thru George Hill’s legs every chance he gets. Take the bad w the good, I guess.

From individual standpoint, both are similar: 2nd or 3rd option, intense give 100% all the time attitude. Teamwise:

Lowry: Led (with DeMar DeRozan) Raptors to 7 straight winning seasons averaging 53 wins, making the conference finals in 2016, and was still the team leader and 2nd best player to superstar Kawhi to win the Championship in 2019.

Holiday: Played (with Anthony Davis) with the Pelicans for 7 seasons averaging 36 wins, making playoffs 2nd round in 2018. Joined the Bucks that had already won 56 games in 2020 then was a key player to superstar Giannis to win the Championship in 2021.

Overall, both in their prime, Lowry > Holiday. Today with Jrue being 5 years younger, obviously you take him over Lowry now.

How about FVV vs Jrue Holiday? That's the real hot topic on the Raps board.

according to some Raps fans the team is star studded at every position. OG a star, Barnes a future superstar, FVV a star, Siakam 2nd team All-NBA star, GTJ a future star

how did they lose to Philly with all these stars?

The only reason to choose a prime Jrue over prime Lowry is if your team values defense over playmaking. Prime Lowry was a pretty good defender but Jrue is even better.
