Free Agency

Post#1 » by FloridaMan78 » Thu Jun 2, 2022 6:14 pm

I didn’t see a general free agent thread so I figured I’d make one.

Looks like Jalen Brunson is out as Cuban ready to break open the bank.

Unless it’s a smokescreen looks like Ayton is out for us.

I’ve seen the rumors of Robinson and Sexton

I’d like us to resign Bagley at a reasonable 8-10 mil

If we trade Grant I’d like Jalen Smith at 8-10 mil

I think we draft a guard but If not than I like DiVencenzo.

Sign and trade with Portland.

Jusuf Nurkic (new contract 3 years/$50 mil) + 2025 Milwaukee 1st + Detroit 2025 2nd
for
Jerami Grant.

Not sexy, but Detroit moves Grant for assets and gets a solid player at a position of need while only losing about $4 mil of their cap flexibility this summer.

I think we'll have a much better idea of where things stand after the draft.

I’m part of the it’s too early to guess group. Wouldn’t be ticked if we got Ayton, but prefer a kind of center by committee thing.

All I do know is that Dallas fans seems to want to dump Bertans on us. The player, ok. The contract would have to be a good amount coming with him to Detroit. And not a collection of random 2nds.

Dallas doesn’t have anything to offer that could make me stomach Bertans salary on the Pistons cap sheet.

I’ve tried making up one that works. It would have to at least be a 3 team trade. And honestly it’s still not worth it

As of right now we don't have any roster spots if we keep both of our draft picks. It'll be interesting to see what happens. We can always carry extra players into training camp and even preseason before having to cut down to 15 + 2 two-way guys.

NBA Draft June 23rd (3 weeks from today)
#5 Pick in the 2022 Draft
#46 Pick in the 2022 Draft
Cory Joseph $5.155 million Player Option Deadline June 28th
Hamidou Diallo $5.2 million Team Option Deadline June 28th
Frank Jackson $3.15 million Team Option Deadline June 28th
Luka Garza $1.563 million Team Option Deadline June 28th
Marvin Bagley III Qualifying Offer Deadline June 29th
Carson Edwards $1.815 million Team Option Deadline June 30th
Free Agency Begins July 1st (Moratorium)
Free Agent can be officially signed July 6th
Deadline to withdraw Marvin Bagley's QO July 13th
NBA Summer League 2022 July 7th - 17th

I'd be ok with sexton for the right price. If we could get another good guard he'd be a great 6th man like Jason Terry/ herro

It seems like he could get something close to 5 million right? Or he can get some more DNP on the bench.

At this point in his career does he want to play backup PG on a contender for 1-2 million less than he is making now, or get DNP behind Cade and Hayes.

Pistons are getting a **** guard somewhere, Cojo is not playing SG or 3rd PG on this team.

I think hes out.

Oh folks, that's wishful thinking. CoJo is going to ride this gravy train to the end.

CoJo is way ahead of Hayes in our rotation. He is not going anywhere. He's going to be our backup PG next season.

So you think he will PLAY as a backup PG on a CONTENDER, while getting DNP on the Pistons who aren't that great? Does this contending team have the NBAs worst backcourt? I'd be pretty surprised for him to turn down his option to watch $2M burn, just to be on a contender. Would be nice though.

Other than a stretch of games at the end, Cojo was out playing Hayes, putting up points and not making dumb mistakes.

His DNPs came because we were tanking and it was all in on the young guys.

I remember some games earlier in the year and last year when he looked excellent, sometimes being the best player out there. He had a drop off in the middle of last year and then we went with young guys.

I bet he could at least have the same 3rd PG position on a contender for 2-3 million, rather than be here.

I think Frank Jackson and Garza are out. Edwards could be too.

It is a bit early to really guess who we’ll be going after. Once we the pick at 5 it should become much clearer. Fun to look at options though.

I wouldn't be shocked if we decline to exercise any of those team options.

I think CoJo will be back, and Garza. Idk about Jackson I think the odds are slim for him. I leaning toward trying trade Bey to get up to two; extending Grant to play the three, drafting a four. Then just resigning Bagley, and go after Gary Harris. Our guy just missed the ROY because of our record. I think we got to get him to the playoffs ASAP

Cunningham
Harris
Grant
Draft pick
Stewart

Hayes
Diallo
Livers
Olynik
Bagley

Joseph
Mcgruder
Pickett
Key
Garza

I'd be shocked if we traded Bey this offseason. And likely appalled.

With the exception that you are involved in a big time exchange and give up #5/Grant/Bey for a star level player. But if it's a run of the mill normal trade, I'd be upset too.
