The "too early?" Knicks Summer League Thread
PF/C: Jericho Sims - had a solid rookie year for the late 2nd rounder. (fixed the spelling error I had in his name)
Other PF/C: (?)
SF: Trevor Keels. Physical swingman type. Will be fun to watch.
SG: Quentin Grimes - saw 17 minutes a game over 46 games, and missed time due to an injury or would have played more. Shot 38% form 3. Solid rookie season.
PG/combo guard: Miles McBride: Didn't play that much, but dominated the G league for the 6 games he played there - taking 9 3s a game, LOL, but he hit half of them. 27.7 PPG. Can he do that in the Summer league? How much more competitive is the Summer league than the G league? A fair bit I would think. Summer league has a lot of players who are too good for the G league.
PG: Jean Montero . . . I'm guessing Montero won't start, but he should see a fair amount of playing time. Will be interesting to see how he does against real competition instead of a league of 16-18 year olds.
I don't know if McBride , Grimes and Simms will carry them. I suspect they'll get more L's than W's, but I look forward to watching anyway.
Who am I missing who's definitely going to be there?

I hope they sign Orlando Robinson as an UFA because it would be nice to have someone over 6-9 who can shoot further from the basket than as tall as they are for a change.

This might be one of the more uninspiring summer league teams we’ve had in recent memory… thanks Leon

Easy enough to look up, but I'll post here.
July 7th.
First Knicks game is July 8th. This is, ofcourse, subject to change.

Last year we had two players named Simms, which was odd.
For anyone saying "boring", I disagree. Grimes & McBride can light it up. They may not be superstars, but they're good summer league players. Simms may be a bit of a put/back player on offense and defender type in the mold of a less athletic, slightly thicker Mitchell Robinson, but that ain't bad and Keels was an effective college player who can still out muscle most of the players he plays against.
Montero might be outmatched against older and more experienced players, but he'll probably be a fun player to watch anyway.
I disagree that there's no reason to watch, even if it's a bunch of bench players, I'm looking forward to seeing McBride lead the team, and shoot a million 3s while hounding the other team on defense. I'm sure he wants to make an impression.
Sometimes players make a jump between year one and year two. Obi did.

Ah. That explains why the box score didn't put first initials. I still managed to get them mixed up. Silly me.

Hopefully Montero got chips on his shoulders and show out. The summer league environment is the place for him to excell.

Nah, I'd watch for Grimes and McBride alone. I think grimes will dominate and carry that over to the season. Like Obi did last year.
Hopefully there won't be too many chuckers that nobody cares about taking his shots.
