Nets Pick Watch & Future Rebuild / Retool Discussion Thread
I figured it’s about time to start this conversation. I suppose this also can be used to monitor our picks in Houston and from the upcoming trades.
This should also help any non-Nets fans who aren’t aware of our position.
Nets INCOMING Picks:
- 2025 2nd round pick via Miami
- 2026 2nd round pick (Nets own)
- 2027 1st round pick via Philadelphia (protected rights 1-8 in 2027 and 2028. Pick turns into 2nd rounder if not conveyed by 2027 or 2028)
- 2028 1st round pick (Nets own)
- 2028 2nd round pick (Nets own)
- 2029 1st round pick (Nets own)
- 2029 2nd round pick (Nets own)
Nets OUTGOING Picks:
- 2023 second round draft pick to Philadelphia or Atlanta (swap, least favorable of Brooklyn, Atlanta and Charlotte incoming)
- 2024 first round draft pick to Houston
- 2024 second round draft pick to Houston
- 2025 first round draft pick to Houston (swap, Oklahoma City via Westbrook trade or Houston)
- 2025 second round draft pick to New York via Atlanta (Jeremy Lin trade)
- 2026 first round draft pick to Houston
- 2027 first round draft pick to Houston (swap, Houston incoming)
- 2027 second round draft pick to Detroit (DeAndre Jordan trade)
The Lakers trade rumor would possibly put us into the 2027 off-season with TWO potential lotto picks. Harden would be coming off Philly’s books by 2026.

Marks has made error after error since he signed KD and Kyrie. I don't think he should be safe at all.
He'd better get a substantial return for KD, because if this team ends up a lottery team without its picks we are doomed.

We traded the worst of the Rockets, Nets, Sixers 2023 pick for Royce. We'll only have the middle pick.

i won't go into the super long defense but it's this simple to me, if you wanted KD, 99.9% of everything that's happened since was unavoidable. He was only coming with Kyrie's weak ass ankles that folded when we need them most. And Harden's cotton candy hamstrings. And he hand picked a coach whom he could dictate the rotation to.
those moves all had 90%+ approval ratings and on the floor they worked! off the floor they didn't and if we are honest with ourselves nothing around the margins would have fixed what didn't work. Bruce Brown, Seth Curry, Nic Claxton, and even Dragic balled against the Celtics. But they couldn't overcome KD's refusal to rest, Kyrie's instability, or the remnants of Harden's ghost.
and even if you disagree with all that, who are you trusting Tsai to real in as GM that's attainable right now and better than Marks? Have we all purged the fact that it was his insane performance building something that made Brooklyn desirable in the first place? With no assets he found/developed 2 max players in Allen/DLo and 3 others who got pretty close with Caris, Dinwiddie, and Harris.
Let's see what he brings back for KD - there's actually a kind of irony in some of the names in discussions right now because Mitchell and Bridges in particular were 2 guys we supposedly liked a lot in those draft years when Boston owned our picks. Ayton was the 1OA pick the year Boston traded our first to Cleveland for Kyrie and Bridges went 2 picks after Sexton. Mitchell went 10 picks after Boston took Tatum and Bam went 1 pick after that. So in a way this 3 year KD interlude may end up reversing things to how they would have been in the first place if not for Billy King.

Correct. Of the 3 picks, HOU, BRK, PHIL, Houston gets the best, Nets 2nd, then Utah 3rd.

Re: Nets Pick Watch & Future Rebuild / Retool Discussion Thread
The way this is listed is confusing. If the Nets are better than the Rockets in pick swap year, they keep their pick, so it's not really outgoing officially.
Might be better to list it by year and by round.
2023:
FR: 1 pick (2nd most favorable of Houston, Philadelphia and Own)
SR: 2 picks. (i: Least favorable of BRK, ATL and CHA. ii: most favorable to PHL and second most favorable to ATL (via ATL swap of ATL or CHA for BRK)
2024:
FR: 0 picks
SR: 0 picks
etc etc

Re: Nets Pick Watch & Future Rebuild / Retool Discussion Thread
Is this discussion even necessary?
Why not just keep both KD and Irving and compete for a championship with Simmons, Curry, Harris, Mills, O'Neale, and company?
Is this doable? This course of action sure seems like a better approach than trading away KD, Irving and completely rebuilding the roster.

Irving's time here is done.
He opted in for the final year of his contract.
Why not play this upcoming season for a championship and then send him off?

That’s assuming he won’t sit out purposely like he’s done before.
I agree with everything you are saying but there’s hardly any way he can regain the trust of the locker room. KD likely has a better chance at coming back with the same team and looking them dead in the eye about what’s happening.
Outside of O’Neale and Alondes Williams, it’s the same damn roster as last season. Healthy Joe this time, obviously but it’s not a great look for the locker room for these dudes to be pulling this nonsense to even run it back, properly.

KD and Irving, as a tandem, picked the Nets, and it has not gone exactly the way that they probably had imagined. However, the roster is now complimentary and stacked to compete for and possibly win a championship.
Simmons, even with his issues, gives the Nets a facilitator and defender which will allow for both KD and Irving to thrive.
Curry is a sniper.
This whole "Irving and KD want to leave the Nets" saga makes no sense to me.

Exactly. KD can come back in and things will probably be straight as long as he's there to hoop with no nonsense. Kyrie is a complete cancer and imo the cause for all of this drama in the first place.
He has no place here anymore.
Honestly, the Nets should just waive him and be done with it.

The Nets have an array of shooters, an elite defensive wing in Simmons, and some decent young talent with Claxton, Sharpe, Thomas and Edwards. This is a very good roster on paper and it doesn't account for the fact that we still have the MLE and vet minimums to use.
Kyrie can go to hell for all I care but KD imo needs to be told no deal. Even without Kyrie this is good roster

Agree. He is 100% gone. I was thinking about 3 way trades for Kyrie for Toronto if say we did a deal with them around KD/FVV but if KD said he'd come back here's an example of a 3 team that could get rid of Kyrie and still keep the Nets competitive.
basically Kyrie + Bogs to LAL,
Conley + LA FRP to Nets,
Westbrook + LA FRP to Utah.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2hy7zxro
Conley / Patty
Curry / Harris
Simmons / O'Neale
KD / Edwards
Claxton / Sharpe
Certainly more work to be done but that's a competitive roster with picks to trade and I believe some exceptions to sign FAs.

Durant is a moron thats why.
Nets have a Championship level roster and wants out.
If we bring those guys back the chemistry is so toxic I really doubt we can win anything. Or recruit any worthwhile FAs to Brooklyn.v

The Nets have set Durant's price as an All Star and 4 to 5 firsts. A rotation player as well.
No contending team wants to give that up because it defeats the purpose of for trading him.
I don't see much happening right now, but stranger things have happened.
