Hornets interested in Donovan Mitchell

Not a clue what we trade, but might as well give it a go. Can't be much worse than what else has happened this year.

Hopefully the Jazz brass didn't hurt themselves when they doubled over laughing.

Not sure why they would, they want picks and we have all but one of our own 1st round picks plus 1 from Denver. Seems like we'd be just as viable of a partner to dump picks + swaps for Mitchell as anyone else.

Not sure how that can be true. What rule is requiring that we can only trade 2?

Not sure, but I've seen multiple people repeat that recently.

The pick we owe for Kai complicates things.

I thought there was some rule that a team can only trade 3 of their own firsts, but checked the Gobert trade and MIN traded 4 of their 1sts (+ Kessler) and 3 swaps, so I'm officially confused.

Found this over on Reddit, interesting to compare Mitchell vs. Rozier last season:

Kinda crazy to think folks were talking about salary dumping Rozier in a Westbrook trade, yet he compares very favorably to Mitchell who is expected to net a boatload in picks.

Exactly. Used to love Mitchell, knowing we had the chance to draft him and didn’t. Need him now? Heck no. Ridiculous price, and to your point, Rozier produces at nearly the same rate.

DO NOT GO THERE HORNETS.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I too was surprised to see the stats comparison between Spida and Terry. Those 6ppg more are a difference maker though, even though it doesn’t sound like much.

What would be great is if Terry could go back to being clutch. In 2020-21 we didn’t have as much talent as last season but Terry was not clutch at all. We need a closer. Spida is a closer.

uhhh, that difference in volume is very significant. Rozier did his work as our 3rd option, with more defensive attention on Melo and Miles. Mitchell putting up the numbers he does with Gobert as his 2nd, and either Bogdanovic or Conley (or Clarkson?) as his 2nd banana is highly impressive.

I'm not interested in paying the asking prices that have been rumored, we simply won't have enough left to build a team around him and LaMelo after a trade, but Mitchell is much much much better than Rozier.

Rozier obviously shouldn't be salary dumped for nothing, anybody saying that simply isn't watching us play.

No doubt at all, Mitchell is a huge upgrade and stats aren’t everything. I think this team is at the point where any time another star becomes available like this we have to try to get them to pair with LaMelo

6 ppg on greater volume albeit with identical efficiency isn't the difference between salary dump and the sort of haul Utah is looking at for Mitchell. I'm not necessarily saying that Rozier = Mitchell, but they definitely are more similar than they are different.

I don't think Mitchell is the guy for LaMelo. If we wait a year or two, we'll have max space to just absorb an unhappy star into cap and give up less.

Any trade that would land Mitchell would end up being a disaster imo. They don't have the assets to acquire him without gutting the team and a better version of Rozier isn't going to move the needle much for this team if they have nothing left to build around LaMelo/Mitchell. Its a complete waist of time for them to even try to get involved in this imo.

I'm 95% opposed to going all in for Mitchell. It seems like a long term disaster.

The 5% in me says, it can't be worse than what we've been trying the past 20 yrs.

5% says, hold my beer, as melo leaves, mitchell leaves and we watch utah draft at #1 with our unprotected pick in 2026.

That’d be the best way to forget about Anthony Davis
