I had more respect and admiration for what this man did off the court than on, and that's saying something.

R.I.P., sir.

NBA Titan and even better person. In a lot of ways, the NBA version of Hank Aaron.

RIP Bill Russell.

I was just thinking about him yesterday morning, and how he would be able to reunite with Wilt and play together in Heaven someday... well, say no more.

The man passed away, but the legacy lives on forever.

RIP to one of the greatest players ever.

I just heard the news on a basketball court.. Totally devastating me.. It seems like he would go on forever.. It's so sad and yet so grateful.. God-bless that man and his family..

RIP goat, glad he was able to re embrace the city when we didn’t even deserve it. Greatest winner in sports history and doesn’t get enough credit for his contributions to civil rights.

Very heartbreaking and was one of the all-time greats. It's a shame that, at least in my opinion, Russell has been disrespected a little by some of the newer generation of fans that didn't appreciate his greatness.

I'm glad I was there to witness the unveiling of the statue back in 2013.

I guess it's not a total shock at his age but I'm devastated. Bill Russell is someone who brought me great joy and pride as a Celtics fan, but even more so as a human being. Sending love to his friends and family. Rest well, Mr. Russell.
