Team with the best/worst jersey collection

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Sat Sep 17, 2022 2:35 pm

Here's a picture of every NBA uniform for this season. I must say NBA is crazy for making some teams have five uniforms in a season. That's just too much.

But anyway, which team have the best jersey collection? Which is the worst?

There are some really ugly sets in there, huh?

I like the Bulls and the Mavs collections.

Normally Nike has the best designs when it comes to athletic wear but they have been trash since they took over the jerseys. There’s no branding or cohesiveness any more. The Utah Jazz are freaking black yellow now? Wtf is that?

Having an alternate jersey come out is only cool and unique if the standard jersey stays standard. If every year, every team changes all of there jerseys and all of their alternates, it’s not unique anymore. It’s played out.

Idk Nike has dropped the ball big time and I never thought I’d say that.

They should have never removed the “home whites” jerseys. They put out way too many different styles of jerseys every year. The jerseys themselves looks thin and cheep. SHAME ON YOU NIKE! SHAME!

Hard to pick the best as most teams had at least 1 jersey I didn't like, but went with

Best: Hawks, Pacers, Warriors, Nets & Hornets

Worst: Cavs, Lakers, Thunder, Blazers & Jazz

**The only thing saving the Raptors from the worst list was that Black and Gold jersey which I like, the others are boring

How many is just right?

For Champion it used to be
Home, Away, Alternate, Throwback and probably a Christmas one for teams.

NIKE has their own names for these: Association/ICON/STATEMENT/City

They are all trash. The only decent uniforms are the few traditional ones that pre-date Nike. Silver allows teams to wear those jerseys like 20 times a year. And I'm sure Silver hates the fact there are still a few teams that won't go fully on board with new jerseys every year.

Honestly it is kind of crazy. The usual marketing concept is that branding is important and you shouldn't change it much. In the NBA they change jerseys and brands every year.

I read years ago that alcoholics account for a huge percentage of alcohol companies profits even though alcoholics are a small minority of drinkers.

I suspect something similar happens with jersey sales. There is a small fraction of jersey purchasers who feel compelled to purchase every jersey their team (or favorite player has). Silver knows this. And decided trashing team colors was worth it for the extra profits.

Given the way he pushed addictive gambling products I'm not surprised.

Yup, they are all trash. I'm less high on Nike than you are. They have done to NBA uniforms what they've done to University of Oregon Football Jerseys. In both cases Nike decided to completely annihilate the concept of team colors. What are the Phoenix Suns team colors? When I was a kid that was a silly question. Purple and white. Now I have no idea what their colors are.

The Cavs made the finals 4 straight times. I can't picture a single jersey in my head from that era. I can't picture the jersey the Bucks wore then they won the title.

And yeah as an old fogy, I would force teams to have only a home and away jersey with a rule they can't change the design for at least 5 years.

And they can wear an alternate jersey 1 time every 2 years.

Yeah 5 is too much. I wouldn’t mind making 4 the standard: home, away, alternate and 1 fun one (unique OR throwback, not both) that can coordinate with a special court for some promotion nights. The problem is these teams wear their fun jerseys so often it ruins the novelty

Me personally, I think three is ideal. White, color, alternate. I don't believe teams must wear white at home.

I hate the idea of teams having more than three jerseys because they will go too far away from their identity. Suns wearing turquoise? Wizards wearing pink? WTF? That doesn't make any sense.

Here's another problem. Look at the Nets, Lakers and Heat. Each of them have three white jerseys. Spurs got three black jerseys. Really? Is all that really necessary? WTF.

Someone convince Philly to bring back the AI era uniforms for a season. Was one of the best jersey re-designs ever.

Other than the obvious clean ones that are always good: Bulls, Celtics, Lakers, Sixers, GS

Best: (I'm clearly a 90's NBA baby)
Detroit bringing the Teal Horsey back is fire. And their new black one is nice.
Houston bringing back the pinstriped is fire.
PHX teal is sick and bringing back the Sun!
Indiana

Worst:
Cleveland looks like they are wearing practice jerseys.
Denver's are just blah these past 5 years.
Orlando needs the pinstripes and star back.
Utah's are as bad as their team is... other than the purple mountain.

I don't know who's got the best but jeez what did Cleveland do? It's like the NBA brought in Arnold Schwarzenegger to tell the Cavs:

Cleveland gets a failing grade from me. Because they redo their stuff every couple years and it’s never good. It’s been the case their entire existence.

I agree. I assume you feel the same way about the Knicks and their black jerseys or jerseys with black accents?

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Bucks in their best list. IMO they have the most variety of any team and I don’t think there’s a single weak offering in the set. Maybe the black one is the weak link, but that’s splitting hairs.
