Thankful all parties came to an agreement. I hope Hunter has good health and success this season.

Re: De’Andre Hunter signs extension: 4yrs/$95 million
Wow. $24 million per year for a dude who avg 13 ppg last year and who has never played 65 games in a season.
This is very much a gamble on what we saw vs Miami in last year's playoffs...and what Travis saw in this kid in college.
I truly hope it pays off.

22.5 a year ain't bad, ain't good either. Who knows he could go off this season.

Re: De’Andre Hunter signs extension: 4yrs/$95 million
I'm really surprised. Don't get me wrong, I like his game and think he can improve a lot but:
- it looks a bit high to me, I thought it would be 80M/4years
- he now have to defend like two seasons ago, and not like in the last one, because hitting more shots Vs MIA was nice, but he was not defending like he did the previous season
Now, I'm almost sure it was because he didn't want to be injured again, and once he's sure it's OK, he will put again some defensive pressure.
The positive thing is that the last two years of his contract may be under the next TV deal, so his salary will not be viewed like now, but until 2025, it makes a lot of money

So we (reportedly) are at $155 million in committed salaries for the 2024 season. I can't help but think that many of these deals we've given out (Capela and Collins in particular) will be viewed really favorably after the next salary cap raise and our entire frontcourt will be viewed as bargains in potential trade talks.
The next big issue is the Dejounte Murray contract, but we at least have 22 months before that comes into play.
DH making $22.5 million per year, though, whew. That's a lot to live up to.

Hypothetical for the board. Which would you guys prefer moving forward:
- Hunter at $22.5 million per season
- Jaylen Brown making $35 million+ per season

Regarding Murray, the good thing is that it will be more on real impact than on potential impact like it is for Hunter.
It might shock some people, but as much as I think he can be a great player, and I would like to see a stretch of 20 games where he's clearly the second offensive option of the team, I think paying him more than 20M, even more than the 18M of Bogi, is a gamble.
But I see it as a management problem first:
- they should have taking care of him instead of rushing his comeback several times. This made him less games too.
- they didn't tried to test him as a second option before
Brandon Clark at 52M/4yrs is certainly underpaid for what he's shown, and Hunter, in the same case, looks a bit overpaid.
Back to Murray: the problem I see is that he can be a FA exactly when the new TV deal starts, which means a Max contract would be based on the new Salary Cap, instead of the current ones (higher each year but still a lot lower than it could be in 2025).
Now, if he think he can get a big contract because of big personal stats, he won't get it because I don't see this team going higher than ECF in this case. And if they don't do better than one year ago, why adding big contracts?
If he play in a team way and they reach the Finals, he will get a big contract, but at the same time, it would also be to our own players of these last seasons having improved, so it won't only because of him, and I hope everybody understand that and they would find an amount that fair for him and the team.

Great point. I hadn't even considered that. Murray potentially could be making more than Trae...
Yikes.
I hope Travis already has a plan in mind.

Re: De’Andre Hunter signs extension: 4yrs/$95 million
Bleacher ReportGrading the Latest Rookie-scale Extensions
De'Andre Hunter's $90m-$95m Deal: A-
Quietly, De'Andre Hunter has grown into a vital piece for the Atlanta Hawks. He's been a strong defender since joining the league as a rookie, but he's become increasingly confident and assertive as a scorer.
Hunter may not be as flashy as Poole or Herro, but he may be the most important for his team. The Hawks have struggled to get stops, but adding Dejounte Murray and retaining Hunter should give the team more defensive support around star guard Trae Young.
Hunter's deal projects to start at $20.1 million, fully guaranteed with no options. Compared to the previously listed extensions, he's a steal.
If there's one knock on Hunter's resume it's durability, dropping the grade slightly to A-.

Re: De’Andre Hunter signs extension: 4yrs/$95 million
Want to see this Hunter on defense
....Hopefully not having to defend PGs/SGs he gets back to this.
On offense....some semblance of this more often than not...consistency across the board

We are lucky! I made a mistake

Murray's contract ends at the end of 23-24 season, but new TV deal would only start at the beginning of 25-26, so he will be FA one year before

Same thing for Bogi
It's Clint's contract that ends in 24-25

Yeah, Clint will be gone long before 2026.
