Joshua Primo released by Spurs

Post#1 » by PrimeThyme » Sat Oct 29, 2022 11:52 pm

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34904011/sources-joshua-primo-allegedly-exposed-women
Spoiler:
The San Antonio Spurs' release of guard Joshua Primo -- the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NBA draft -- stemmed from multiple alleged instances of him exposing himself to women, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

The decision to release Primo on Friday night was sudden and shocking, and it spoke to the severity of the issues surrounding the promising 19-year old player.

The team had recently picked up the $4.3 million 2023-24 option on Primo's contract, signifying a level of confidence in his future with the franchise.

Many NBA teams remain intrigued with Primo's talent and potential, but are searching for a more complete understanding of the situation as they weigh the possibility of placing a claim to acquire Primo before he clears waivers and becomes a free agent Monday afternoon, sources said.

To claim Primo, a team would need the available cap space or a traded player exception significant enough to absorb his $4.1 million salary this year. It would also owe him the $4.3 million on his contract for 2023-2024.

Obviously, it's a really horrible situation, especially without knowing more about the severity of the allegations. Kid seems to have some serious mental health issues.

However, Shelbourne is reporting that NBA teams remain very Interested in him. It's hard to think that we wouldn't be one of them. He's a very young player (2nd year and still one of the youngest players in the league) and from a measurables and skillset standpoint, he would fit right into our nucleus. He hasn't shot it well up to this point, but has a great handle, nice release, playmaking skills, and a knack for getting to the basket.

I think it's a situation we should be monitoring closely with our guard situation. I have not researched enough into the speculations at this point and am not sure what will come out, but I think it's worthy of a discussion based on where our rebuild is and Weltman's willingness to take on rehabilitation projects.

I want to reiterate that this thread is not me vouching for us to make a claim on him. If the accusations end up being as bad as it seems to be trending (based on specualtion), I would vouch for the opposite. I just think it's worth monitoring.

I think too early in the situation. Might not be worth all the destruction.

But he is something that I think weham would consider as a reclamation projecf.

There’s a bad stink wafting off Primo now, apparently he’s being accused of sexual misconduct by a former Spurs employee. I’d just assume Bol Bol run the point instead.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I watched a lot of him in college. he really needed to stay and develop more. he was not a good playmaker for others. more his average for last year than his avg in 4 games this year. and this isnt necessarily aimed at you. but why does it happen, whenever ANY player is released from another team people think we should bring him in to take a look at him and that he would fit in here. seems to happen all the time

Better for the Magic to just wait and see how the situation developes. He is a kid, but this is pretty bad, and he doesn't have the star power of a Deshaun Watson to "overlook" it.

That was in poor taste, I apologize.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

If the kid had any other last name besides Primo this wouldn’t be nearly as funny. It’s just too perfect

Primo has barely played right? We have no guards currently, literally playing lineups of guys 6'10 or taller, I say pick him up.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

If the Spurs recognize they made a mistake, that's saying something. If a guy is doing this early in his career before he has proven anything, he's going to keep doing it if he develops into a decent player. We have two picks in this upcoming draft and tradeable assets, don't get desperate.

Just for argument's sake...SAS was smart to banish him quickly (like BOS did) because it involved a team employee and that can get really dangerous in terms of the inevitable lawsuit. This is SAS taking themselves out of the equation and saying "He's all yours" to the plaintiff and lawyers. I don't know the extent of the problem or the circumstances (terrible sense of humor? moron "flirting"? or, severely damaged dude?). I'm certainly not jumping to get him, but understand the danger to SAS is greater than it would be for another org.

Need much more info...he could have just had a moment of really, really, really, really awful teenage judgment or he's a dangerous sexual predator. I don't claim to know.

He is not talented enough for anyone in the league to take a chance on him any time soon. If he has any future in basketball it will be overseas until this is behind him. His NBA career is likely over.

Return to Orlando Magic
