Bojan has a 6.8 OBPM on the season :o, that's more than Durant and more then twice as good as LeBron

While the Pistons have a lot of issues, some related to Bojan, this makes a lot of sense. His game should age well and that's not much money for either a quality shooting starter or your sixth man. Clearly he creates space for Cade and Ivey and he competes hard.

Now if they could find some defense...

Nothing against Bogs…I like him and his shooting ability a lot….but…

Not sure a bottom-5 team should be giving $20 mil per year extensions to anyone who’s not part of the long-term plan. Again, nothing against Bojan, the player, but he’s a 33-34 year old vet.

Don’t HATE the extension. And again, I like Bojan. I just question why a losing team is handing out a $20 mil per season extension to an older vet.

Im assuming most all of their moves will be for vets who know how to play moving forward now. They'll have this draft, keep the youngsters they like moving forward and fill out the roster with experienced players next season to make a playoff push.

It makes him a more tradeable asset at the deadline if they choose to go that route so this doesn't necessarily mean that they seem him in a long term plan.
Even if they keep him, they still have a large chunk of cap space available to make additions so this signing doesn't really preclude that. Plus they need good vets around.

Nailed my thoughts.

At worst BB is a quality rotation guy on a good team.

We just aren't a good team...yet. How long it takes to become one will determine how I view his extension

I like it. We need real hoopers on the team. He can also fetch more in a trade now

Exactly. Lock him in and then dangle him to a contending team if he sustains this good play.

Otherwise his deal isn't bad especially with the cap going up.

It's a good deal. IMO this increases his trade value for a deadline/draft night trade to a contender. Worst case scenario, he stays as a nice veteran presence. Only problem with that is that I think his lack of defense is a difficult mix with Bey/Stewart and a pair of very young guards. Hopefully Duren helps solve those problems in the near future.

Bogs has been really good, and the second year not being fully guaranteed in nice.

Is he in the Joe Harris/THJ/Fournier/Heild group? Or better?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Absolutely perfect. Easily tradeable contract, for younger players on a contender.

Great move.

He seems to be more of a reliable offensive weapon year in and year out

The long term plan is four years old now. It's no longer long term. After this season, it's time to start winning. Weaver apparently understands.

I love this, Bojan have been absolutely fantastic. He has been trying super hard every game and giving 110% effort. He is a super high BBIQ player and he can shoot. He is the kind of guy we need around Cade Ivey and Duren.

This could be bad news for Bey tho. If we find a good 2 way PF, Bey is the guy being moved to the bench.

We have a roster full of players that cant defend or score, his being able to proficiently score makes him 50% better than most of this roster.
No reason to not keep 50% improvement.

Love it. They just need to figure out where to use him such that he gets his shots and has some defensive help. Definitely worth the money and only a 2 year deal; I don't see anything to complain about.

Bojan at $19 million is way better than Bagley at $13 million per. Bojan is a solid starter in this league.... probably a top 65 to 70 player. He's a slightly above average starter IMO.

I agree that this still potentially could lead to a trade.

His absolute lowest amount he would have been paid this summer by someone would have been MLE money, but there was zero chance he was staying with us for MLE money. MLE money this summer will probably be close to a 2 year $25 million deal.

I don't mind it, but I am surprised. I had him as pretty likely to be traded by the deadline. *shrug*
