Joel Embiid Records Historic Stat Line

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Nov 14, 2022 1:31 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers have been scuffling along a bit this season. Joel Embiid started the season out of shape due to plantar fasciitis, and then he had an illness that caused him to miss game. Now, Embiid is rounding into shape and putting up historic stat lines.

In the Sixers win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday, Embiid became the first player ever with at least 50 points, 10 rebounds, five assist and five blocks in the same game. This is since blocks became an official stat in 1973.

Embiid finished with 59 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and seven blocks. In the fourth quarter alone, Embiid scored 26 of Philadelphia's 27 points. He also recorded five of his seven blocks in the final frame.

For the game, Embiid shot 19-of-28 from the field and 20-of-24 from the free throw line. Over his past two games, has scored 101 points, after dropping 42 on the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. For the season, Embiid is averaging a career-best 32.3 points per game.

So when should the trade rumors begin?

How can it be historic if they have only kept records sine 1973?

You answered your own question. It's self-explanatory, is 50 years without a game like that happening not long enough for you to call it historic? How long do we have to wait?

How about giving others credit for doing it first since the NBA didn't start in 1973. But you already knew that.

All recorded history starts somewhere. For the NBA and blocks that's 1973. So unless you have a DeLorean and are willing to go back in time to correct this then just deal with it...

How are we going to give others credit for it if block stats were not kept before 1973? It's a one-of-a-kind historical performance since blocks became an official stat. That's the whole point...

Just because the NBA didn’t keep stats records it doesn’t mean the stats aren’t out there. Records from Wilts day show he averaged 8.8 blocks a game in games where blocks where recorded . I’m sure if a person had access and the time to search thru could find twenty games like that from Wilt.

Why don't you give credit to somebody doing it first? Name, date and opponent please. Don't tell me, you don't have those stats handy. Yeah, no one does. And I'm not sure why people are arguing about this. We can all agree that Embiid had a good game, right?

To be clear, historic doesn't mean that it's never been done. If someone landed on the moon tomorrow it would be historic; it would mark the return to the moon after 50 years.
