I don't think it does. It's still a large amount gtd and I imagine he will be back at some point.

I was aiming more to demonstrate the numbers rather than suggest an actual proposal. I had recently been digging around in the Chicago salaries/contracts, so I knew that DDR would work for getting to the needed match/requirement for a CP3 trade.

Provided the numbers from Spotrac are correct and I did the calculations right, Chicago won't be a Luxury Tax payer. Shamet ($9,500,000) might work in place of Saric, but he is owed future money and Chicago might not want that. It might depend on what pick compensation is being included.

Having a $15M dead weight salary on your books is a significant negative. For a team looking to shed salary it's a lot worse than an EC.

Baring a major injury I'd expect Paul to be playing next season under this contract, as paying Paul $30M to play as much as he can for you will be better than having a big dead weight salary.

And of course dead money is always unsightly, but depending on what your payroll is that $15M savings could mean another tier of cap space, wiggle room under the tax, or avoiding the tax altogether.

It's far worse than an EC that goes completely away. IMO it't not really any better than a significantly overpaid guy making $30M because then there's a player attached. Which is why I expect Paul to be playing under the contract next season and not waived - dead money really sucks. The fully non-guaranteed 3rd year means that it will act like an EC in 2023-24.
