JJ Starling

Post#1 » by EMG518 » Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:09 pm

Since we are opening threads for many players at the moment, I thought I would open one for my favorite sleeper. I think he has a pretty good shot of going one and done in the 1st round. If he comes back for his sophomore year I see him becoming a lottery pick.

i like his overall profile but his skill set makes him a tweener and not necessarily the good kind, not really a good enough shooter yet as an off-ball guard/wing and not good enough playmaking juice where you want him to be a lead or even secondary ball handler at this point. on the other end he's got a way to go too.

i'd at least wait until his shot develops more and he becomes a more efficient scorer before I'd give him a grade. 42/28/66 should be a lot higher wit his profile.

I agree, a lot to work on, needs to improve his conditioning and shot probably first and then ancillary skills.

I dont see anything to make me believe those areas won't improve though.

Donovan Mitchell Lite imo.

for sure

and tbf, Blake Wesley was even worse efficiency wise last yr in a similar role on ND and was still taken in the first, so we'll see. but as of this point can't say I'd be comfortable taking him too high.

Yea, wait and see for sure whether it will transpire this season. Very early. Wesley showed more play making than Starling has thus far. I honestly didn't even remember Wesley's efficiency being that poor but it was, just checked. I like him significantly more than Blake Wesley though personally and I did like Wesley last season. Had him as a 1st rounder pretty early. I think Starling is built better, has the better mechanics and a different typel of athleticism. I think he is a guy who probably kills in the combine and work outs. There was a drive to the basket at the start of that video posted which was just really high level. It's not something you can teach, you just have to have the physical gifts to move like that and ability to do so with the ball.
