It's not going to be $15m AAV in any realistic sense. It's a longer-term deal for Competitive Balance Tax purposes, but realistically it's probably best viewed as a 4 year, $27m AAV deal with money deferred over the following two years. Which is still a hell of a lot to pay for the age 37-40 seasons of a guy with a history of arm troubles.

https://awfulannouncing.com/wbd/att-sportsnet-rsns-reportedly-short-three-mlb-teams-on-rights-payments.html

If the RSN bubble pops, it's going to have a tremendous impact on team finances. Most of the RSNs lose (lots) of money on the deals, but use them for leverage in negotiating carriage fees with cable/satellite providers, the idea being that providers wouldn't be willing to risk the backlash of having entire markets without their hometown team and would consequently pay far more per subscriber to carry the RSNs than they do for other channels*. It hasn't been working out that way in recent years, though.

*Which is why I've always been dubious that Rogers is making a mint off Jays rights: they can't really hold themselves over the barrel.
