Playing today, 1996 Magic Johnson or current CP3?

14.6p/5.7r/6.9a; .47/.38/.86 shooting split; .61TS%, .181WS/48, 5.2BPM
13.5p/4.3r/9.1a; .43/.36/.81 shooting split; .55TS%, .151WS/48, 2.8BPM
CP3 this season @ 37.

Im guessing we're not factoring missed games in.....

96 Magic is prolly better than any non Nola/Lac/18 Rockets version of Cp3. Cp3 from 2019-22 has had great seasons but hes so much more limited on offense than he used to be. When he cant hunt mismatches on defense well hes looked horrific. Hes been a liability many times in Phoenix flatout looked like the worst player in the series for most the Mavs series specially 2nd half. Teams have even started leaving him open this season and he just doesnt have the same lift he used too. Missing floaters, jumper is alot worse, cant drive past defenders as well. He can still play in a scheme but Cp3 has gotten targetted and abused on defense much more in Phoenix too and its not just Luka its alot of guards and wings.

Lakers played at a 56 win pace with him. Thats the pace of Pels this season with Zion.....Wouldnt shock me if 96 Magic was Zion level. Hed be a Pf now even play small ball center. Magic would be an autobucket in the post as anyone including Jokic. And that version of Magic is when he was becoming a great 3pt shooter. 38% that season. Magic in the post with Goat passing, floor completely spread with open lans and shooters out there with the lack of defensive rules today? Hed absolutely CREAM defenses and prolly even the 96 version would be a top 5 offensive player today at WORST top 10.

CP3 is healthier, playing much higher minutes per game factoring league average.
Magic was a poor defender at that stage and his playoff shooting and ass/to were quite bad.

Magic, rather easily.

I would prefer 2021 CP3 though [and I think I prefer 1996 Magic to 2022 CP3 but it's very close].
