Waive Isaac?
Thoughts people? I think we should waive him now to pay his partial salary.
I believe next season isn't fully guaranteed.
Do not need the drama heading into next season.

Re: Waive Isaac?
He will not be waived until Jan. 2024. And then, I would think it is more probable than not. Only if Isaac has a monster first half of the season (i.e. plays well and is healthy for 80% of the games), would he be retained.
Isaac's cap value is too large at this point to see him being kept.

You see were he is at but I'd waive him by 1/10/24 which is the date his 17.6M gets guaranteed vs the 7.6M if he's waived by then.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Sounds like one more emotional roller coaster is in order. Healthy he's our 4th most valuable asset (Paolo, Franz, Wemby odds, JI).

Re: Waive Isaac?
I'd like to see him included in a trade for an upgrade to the roster.
Sell another team on the partial guaranteed contract.
We could take a larger contract(s) back and a team could save $$, especially if we also add G. Harris too.

What drama? He will be able to play or he won't.

If the extra $10 million can help them land a quality free agent this summer, then they should obviously waive him now. If not, I guess you wait until January to see if he or his contract are tradeable.
If we’re being honest, there is likely no third option where he stays healthy and plays well.

Agreed...My favorite option is he returns healthy and is sixth man of the year based on game-changing defense
But...I'm not counting on that. IF the front office has a target in FA or trade and needs the space, the fact that Isaac and Fultz' deals are not fully guaranteed is just another valuable option the FO has set themselves up to consider. Great options. I don't hate Fultz or 100% give up all hope on Isaac's return, but if a better option like Trae or even FVV presents, those waivers are powerful tools to have on hand.
But let me be clear and say I wouldn't waive either one or Harris or even Bol just to save the owner some money. If there's a better option, use the tools at hand. Otherwise, hang in there (again).

Re: Waive Isaac?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Isaac gets waived, but I don’t think he will be. The injury he got in March is not a dealbreaker from all accounts so I think they bring JI back for one more try. If things don’t work out in ‘23-24’ I think they’ll move on. Isaac has the potential to be a difference maker for the Magic if he’s ever fully recovered and on his game. Like, the difference between a 7th seed team or a division champion. Add a solution to our 2 guard issues via the draft and the Magic could be loaded next year.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Re: Waive Isaac?
What else are we going to spend our money on? Keep him until the guarantee date, and then make a decision to waive or restructure. I am worried he is just too twitchy/athletic for his body, and the injuries will continue to mount as other parts of the body take on too much load compensating for the parts that have broken.
Who knows, though, maybe JI comes out healthy this offseason and never has another serious injury the rest of his career...or maybe he's preaching the gospel this time next year.

Re: Waive Isaac?
Weltman already said this is Isaac’s most minor injury… and expects him to have a healthy offseason. Also raves how much the game changes with him on the court despite losing a lot of time the past few years.
Barring the need to create cap space to acquire a player, I doubt he gets moved or cut.

Re: Waive Isaac?
What difference does it make how minor the injury is comparatively, if again he can't take the court? Other than for JI himself, the nature of the injury is irrelevant, because the player history informs us that there'll likely be another one around the corner.
At some point, you have to be a reliable piece or you may as well not exist. You're just eating cap. In the real world, as opposed to the world of player potential, Moe Wagner is 10 times more valuable than JI. Let that sink in before you shell out more dough on Isaac.

Re: Waive Isaac?
Let him rehab him and use him as a trade filler in the summer or at the deadline. There isn't anything more that can be done.
He probably needs to move on for himself

Re: Waive Isaac?
I agree waive him or keep him I am ok with either.
I just don't have any more hope for his return. This to me is worse then the Grant Hill situation and I legitimately have a concern with his physical condition post NBA. At this rate, I wonder if he will be able to chase his own children around the house, much less if he already has kids. His Grandchildren.

Re: Waive Isaac?
I don’t think he’ll be waived unless they absolutely positively need the money to take on salary in a trade or make a significant free agency signing.
But I don’t expect either of those things to be the case. So I would imagine he’s back next season.

If he's contributing and we're winning next January, then he won't be waived.
