IIRC Brandon Miller was relatively in this range for a lot of people prior to the season. Dariq Whitehead also was very high on many people's boards until he tumbled during the season, but I believe there is some speculation he might've been injured and misused? This is just from what I've read, I really can't stand watching college basketball for the most part tbf.

Same. The one thing I took away from this is that If Dillon Mitchell was this high on his draft board a year ago, and he falls to us in the second round, it’s a really good bet we take him.

Interesting to see how far Ware has fallen as a prospect for he was viewed as a lottery pick
and after a disastrous season at Oregon, left in the portal.

NIL money has changed college basketball but no matter, NIKE will just buy more guys to sign
with Oregon.

Givony was on Woj’s pod today, they both talked Portland. He said he’s hearing the Blazers would have to be blown away by a trade for 3 to move that pick and they don’t believe that trade is going to be out there and the team will make the pick. Teams are looking at this seasons playoffs and it’s course correcting their mindsets a bit that even playin teams can have good playoff runs, so that and no generational talent next summer is making teams less interested in a blow-it-up / go young deal.

Interestingly as well, they both said take the pick and have them play with or learn with Dame next season, not taking the pick means having to trade him immediately. The thought process Givony said was to take the pick, keep same for a couple more season and then let him walk or trade him in a couple years when Scoot and Sharpe or Miller and Sharpe can take over.

This is kinda what I've been harping on with the "championship or bust" concept...getting into the POs with a young team (sharpe and #3) is still incredibly valuable.

The only issue I see is that it would seem trading Lillard and his contract in a couple of seasons will be next to impossible. IIRC he'll be owed 45M for that season and still have a season to go before he's expiring.

Try 60M per season!
Lillard will never be as valuable as he is right now.

I'm not sure the exercise is worth it for a one and done playoff run (if we're lucky...)

Yup… It’s not that I want to see Dame traded. It’s that I don’t want to be 10th-12th in the conference again next season, and tanking the last 20 games for a third year in a row to get lottery balls. All while Dame’s value significantly decreases. He deserves to be on a competitive team, and if that’s not us next season then let’s move ASAP.

I do wonder looking at this, if Miller is pretty low on the Blazers list that even if they keep the pick and use it, if Scoot goes 2, does Portland make a surprise pick and skip Miller for someone else?

I know this list is a little old, but Miller is super low on this list and I do trust Schmitz as a great talent evaluator.

Personally I think Miller’s ceiling is a low level all star that barely made the team due to injuries. He’s a good, but not great open shooter that doesn’t excel at anything else, and he doesn’t have the athleticism to take a huge jump.

I like Scoot, the Thompsons, Hendricks, Walker more than Miller.

My preference would be to trade Dame and end up with as much of these guys as possible and pair them with Sharpe. There’s even some decent upside guys to take a swing on later in the first to second round that may be available cheaper this year than moving forward.

At that point, Portland probably trades down. Not a move I am a fan of, but the best use of assets if the Blazers have no interest in Scoot/Miller.

I could see trading down if CHO takes Scoot, but if they make the mistake of drafting for position over BPA, you do not pass on Scoot. Yes, he's only 6'2", but has a 6'9" wing span and actually plays defense. Pair him with Sharpe as your backcourt of the future. They are both insanely athletic, can score, compliment each other well and have the potential to be a top 2-way backcourt in the league.

Schmitz had Scoot at No. 2, behind only Wemby for a reason.

Yeah, if Scoot is at 3, I think Portland takes him regardless of what Dame wants. I think Schmitz’s opinion will outweigh a deal that’s even a fair/good deal in that scenario. Also makes me think CHA will take scoot and why Portland is shopping the pick is knowing Scoot will be gone. Sure Miller will be solid, but think he’s not as sure a deal as Scoot and Wemby this draft.

Addendum to last post…

Officially 91st highest paid player of all players. Marcus Morris and Bertans are ahead of him at 89 and 90. Portland was #15 in how much money teams spent on their C position last year with Nurk taking 16 of the 18mil they spent. I’m sorry, that’s on track for where they should spend.
