Well, Vogel isn't bad. But he might be one AD bubble hot streak away from us thinking he's worse than he is, but he was good in IND as well. That said, give Williams a training camp with KD and Booker (or a healthy CP3) and we might see he's better than Vogel. I think they kinda screwed the pooch when firing Monty.

Firing Williams was needed. You can't get blown out by 30 in back-to-back elimination games. As for Vogel, this team is ceiling is 2nd round, so they didn't move the needle.

CP3 hurt and Ayton was being Ayton - a no show again. Suns just didn't have enough talent to compete overall, especially against the Laker's frontcourt. IMO, Ishbia should have a taken a real long, hard look at James Jones. Monty probably didn't click with the new arrival is all, there was certainly no reason to fire him. He made out all right.![]()
I'm happy Vogel got it, I like him as a coach. Almost wished they hired Doc, just to see the Suns not get out of the second round again and again and again

Agreed, the Suns had no shot. The KD trade made the Suns worse in the short term because of their lack of depth. That trade was all about next season and anyone that thought otherwise was kidding themselves. Next season we are going to hear all about the better job Vogel is doing after having the benefit of training camp and a full roster.

where exactly are they going to find this depth given that they will be paying the following:
48 mil KD
36 mil booker
32 mil ayton
31 mil CP3
10 mil shamet
6.5 mil payne
that's 163.5 mil - already in the tax. the "super tax" is 180 mil
they're not getting upgrades for ayton or cp3 in trade

Ayton's not without value, not quite 25 (saving grace), gives you 18/10 on good percentages and plays defense. Everyone knows he doesn't want to be in Phoenix, tried to leave, contract matched and seemed more off this past season than last. A team that could use his scoring up front and add a different dynamic that could make a deal is the Knicks - Ayton for Mitchell/Fournier. Use their exception on Brooks - CP3, Booker, Brooks, KD, Mitchell would be a tough and balanced 5 and now the team has some depth with Fournier (playing on an expiring, always good a team), TJ, Payne, Shamet, Okogie, Bazley(?), BB, Landale, Lee, Ross(?). Even if they go over the 2nd apron, the league will take 2 years to phase it in so this would be the time to do it. Also CP3, Shamet, Fournier, Payne are all expiring freeing up 60ish million next summer.
I would also revisit the team that gave Ayton that contract - Indy. They can do an Ayton for Turner straight up - would give the Suns a 10 mil trade exception. I would then use that to sign Brooks. CP3, Booker, Brooks, KD, Turner with the depth noted above sans Fournier. Use their exception on another player.

Yes, the obvious answer is turning Ayton into two players or Ayton/CP3 into 3-4 players.

The suns need some depth and reliable pg for when CP3 isn't healthy.
Ayton is the most likely to be moved player as of now but what trade package makes the suns better right now to still compete for a championship?
You might get the most value if you were to get picks and or another promising young player.

yes but I was merely speaking to Ayton not having enough value to upgrade. Suns have options, more than the Warriors atm.

When did Phoenix play against Lakers frontcourt?

Monty Williams and Doc Rivers are better coaches than Frank Vogel. Firing Monty Williams was personal, and hiring Vogel was out of desperation. Vogel didn’t deserve to walk into a roster that has Kevin Durant and Booker. If they upgrade at the pg spot, by trading Ayton and bring CP3 off the bench, then I believe the Suns are still top 3 in the West.
