Thunder Acquire Kevin Porter Jr., Two Second Round Picks From Rockets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Oct 17, 2023 4:53 pm

The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to acquire Kevin Porter Jr. and two second round picks from the Houston Rockets for Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.

The Thunder will waive Porter, who was recently arrested on domestic violence charges. Oklahoma City will pay the $16.9 million guaranteed to Porter as they waive him.

The Thunder are acquiring a 2027 second via Minnesota and a 2028 second via Milwaukee.

KPJ's name is on the trade, but in reality it's a Oladipo for 2nd Round picks trade.

Porter Jr is just salary matching fodder.

Hopefully, the last NBA transaction he's ever a part of.

They should be taking notes in Charlotte.

HOU saved about $4m and got Oladipo, who might be a positive in the locker room or might just get moved again or waived... But OKC paid $4m+ for two 2nds? They have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 picks over the next seven years. (I started to count but quickly ran out of fingers. ) At some point they need to stop paying for more picks and cash in.

There's no "cashing in" to be done in mid October. The Thunder had too many contracts anyway, might as well throw out Houston's dirty laundry and get paid for it rather than their own. :dontknow:

They didn't get paid. They bought two picks.

They're getting paid for it in draft picks. Even OKC's cheap ownership doesn't care about the money.
