Nembhard to San Antonio
IND trades: Andrew Nembhard, Daniel Theis
SAS trades: Tre Jones, Charles Bediako, 2024 TOR 1st (1-6 through 2026, otherwise 2 2nds), 2024 CHA 1st (1-15 through 2025, otherwise 2 2nds)
Indiana gets a quality backup point guard to replace Nembhard + returns what is likely a mid first and 2 2nds. San Antonio gets a long term solution at point guard.

Is Nembhard worth that much?

He's worth more. Pacers aren't going to trade him for a random future 1st (The CHA 1st is probably just going to be 2nds; the TOR 1st could be all over the place) and some Tre Jones guy.

But we HAVE a quality backup point guard. In fact we have TWO of them (Nembhard and McConnell). We already have a "mid 1st" next year - our own first - and then the lesser of the OKC/LAC 1st. What do we need a third 1st for?
Nembhard is on good contract, he's locked up for the next few years as our backup point guard who can also play some SG. What's the point of doing any of this?

Re: Nembhard to San Antonio
I'd love to get Nembhard to ORL...he's maybe not quite a real PG, but some teams don't need that (like ORL in my opinion) with frontcourt ball handlers. He'd be great next to his buddy Suggs
OP will not get it done - I get the impression IND really likes him and his versatility makes it even more unlikely he can't find a role. Game 1...10 assists in 12 minutes

IND fans...I assume you won't like the OP...what would it take?

Of course not. He’s just in the group of guys for now that happens to be overvalued around here.

I think IND is much more likely to simply move TJ for peanuts than trade a young guy who can play both guard spots, defends and hits the 3.

This is what I’m talking about. He’s aged 24 season and a career below average three point shooter.

He also has only had 1 year of sample size.
I think this is an overpay by SAS, but I also think IND rightfully likely sees him as a long term 3rd guard and part of the core. I think he is a step above guys like Nesmith, Jalen and Jackson as far as the 2nd tier of IND talent goes.
Realistically SAS isnt paying 2 FRP for him and realistically IND is looking to move TJ over Andrew.

Indy rightly looks at him as a rotation piece and he's locked into a minimum salary for this season and next. That's easily worth more to them than a couple of non-lotto FRPs
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

The Toronto pick is only top 6 protected and could easily be a lottery pick. I don't think the Spurs consider the OP, I understand Indy fans loving their guy but the tape/stats don't paint Nembhard as worth this kind of offer yet.

Re: Nembhard to San Antonio
I think to ask for the price in the OP, you have to find a team who seems him as a starter or starter's minutes backup. It's great he's a solid rotation player. And its great that he's dirt cheap. But teams just don't give up a lightly protected first plus another first plus a solid young rotation guard of their own unless they think there is another level to be untapped.
Like the player, but not sure there is that much ceiling here.

The thing is, I think there’s a better ceiling there. He’s obviously not a Tyrese Haliburton guy, but is he a Jalen Brunson guy? Or even if he’s less than that, can he be pretty close in that vein?
When Haliburton was out late last year, Nembhard played like it. He was essentially a 15/3/7 player on 49/73/41 shooting splits in almost 32 minutes a night, on only 2 turnovers per night and solid defense. All after being asked to guard big wings as a defensive specialist at the 2 spot all season prior.

Nembhard is a unique guy. When he handles the ball, he is rarely sped up or slowed down by his defender. He plays at whatever speed he wants to, and tends to get wherever he wants to. He’s pretty savvy. Maybe it’s just his age, and this is it? But he’s playing pretty well so far, and he does a really good job of putting his teammates in a position to succeed and score easily. It looks like he’ll play primarily the 1 this year, and has pushed McConnell to the emergency PG spot. I think Indy will want to see him play this year and probably next, too, before making a decision on his long term future.

High price...but I understand that Indiana has no motivation to move him...I think that package could get them Quickley who they could pay without problems and I suppose the Knicks would be willing to listen...right?

IDK. I just think that's the question teams have to ask before paying this price.
Nembard never showed at Gonzaga the things Brunson did at Nova. Doesn't mean he doesn't have it in him, that's a program that's mostly been about their revolving door of talented bigs, just makes it harder for me to project him offensively.

Nembhard and draft capital for Sochan? Not that I expect Spurs fans to go for this. Perhaps they should forget Nembhard and offer for McConnell.

Re: Nembhard to San Antonio
Clearly Jones is the wrong filler here. I have a pretty high opinion of Nembhard, too. I'd send two firsts (MIN and CLE) in 2025 for Nembhard and a bit of value. He seems like a starting caliber point guard right now, is a good distributor and defender.

Not bad value but I see no reason to trade Nembhard.

It would have to be an over pay.

Love Nembhard too so when I saw the title I assumed it was going to be a bad value deal, but I think this is pretty spot on. I get why SA wouldnt want to pay it, but this is about what it should take to get him from IND.. but I dont think IND is going to want to move him. He's one of a few really solid players on the Pacers that isn't foundational but can be a really good complementary piece.. seems like one of those classic 'winner' type players
