Will Chet Holmgren be a better offensive or defensive player?

I'm hoping/expecting defensive.

Overall I get a strong #2 vibe from him on offense (as in he could be a strong #2, potentially), high efficiency, fits with everybody, but not really a build around offensive guy. His handle and passing just don't seem strong enough (very difficult/rare at his size) to be a reliable primary initiator. At least when talking about a championship level team, plenty of teams have worse offensive lead players than his potential peak.

Defensively it's believable that he could be the leagues best defender (though Wemby should offer strong competition for the spot). Jokic type matchups will probably be scary, may appreciate a more bruiser type frontcourt partner eventually, but could grow into it as well.

Most likely defense, but the fact that this is a legitimate question should be worrisome for the league.

Defense imo. It’s already showing in early EPM, though using that as a driver of such an opinion is premature. I question how much higher his ceiling on offense will get, whereas his floor on defense is already astounding as he’s been one of the best rim protectors in the league.

Chet, Shai, and Jalen Williams are already a +13 (121-108) Net rated trio on the court. It’s only ~220 minutes though. I question the extent of sustainability, but the entire season’s sample should be leading to some impressive results - at least that’s my guess.

probably defense, but only because he has a chance to be multiple time DPOY. he also has a chance to be a pretty elite offensive player, but never jokic level as a scorer/passer or league leading scorer. but an efficient 25 pt 5 assist guy - absolutely has that potential.

He seems more pure to me offensively. But being as good as he is defensively, this early is no joke.

Okc fans should be hoping for offense. If im not mistaken offensive peaks are higher than defensive ones in the modern era. If he can be better on offense he's looking like an Mvp candidate, but it'll probably be defense.
