Yves Missi - Baylor Bear - 2024 NBA Draft

Post#1 » by MemphisX » Tue Dec 5, 2023 6:24 am

One of my favorites in the 2024 draft. #30 on ESPN Mock Draft right now but I see him going in the lottery. #19 on The Athletic. I see him in the top 10 personally. Can't wait to see how he develops.

What makes him a top 10 pick? I can see maybe a 1st round pick, with the baseline of 7'0", starting center for a team as good as Baylor, freshman, can catch lobs, finish around the rim and block shots. Like, that is a solid baseline that can maybe put you in the 1st round.

But if that's all you can do (catch lobs, finish in dunker's spot, get some put-backs, rebound and blocks shots around the rim) I don't think that's enough to go in the lottery..

I've already watched Baylor quite a bit because of Walter, and Missi definitely pops as an NBA body, but his offensive game is pretty rough right now. I am leaning towards him ending up returning...although this is such a weak draft maybe you can say all bets are off.

2024 draft class is likely too good for him to come out and be a first rounder. He is very similar to Bona in size and athleticism, not close to a true 7 footer, closer to 6'10", but way behind him on offense. I felt like Bona was/is being held back and could have been a 1st rounder in a weaker 2023 class but with Missi, he probably needs to return and put in a lot of work to ensure he's even a first round pick next draft. He helps make Baylor a damn good team this season though.

welp, I was wrong. Didn't really believe his size and finally got a chance to see him on the floor with a true 7 footer in Filipowski and he's either 7' or very close. He has an NBA body and a reported 7'6" wingspan. Going to eat some crow on this one, seeing him shut Filipowski down and how well he moves I think he might just be first round material. A total blank slate on offense but when you can block shots and don't look lost defending the perimeter or on switches as a 7' you're likely to be drafted in the first round. Another international big like Ndongo to add to this stellar international class.

I mean maybe I'm just ignorant, but isn't just getting double digit points, making nearly 2/3rds of FGA (plus he probably finishes off some of his misses), summat close to 7 oboards/40 and not turning the ball over a lot showing something offensively?

He has 30 points and 2.6 steals per 100 possessions. TOs are a bit high but 2.2 USG%/TO% is good even if he's only a finisher. Capela does look like a good comp though Missi is likely stronger, maybe even considerably so.
