Last season that MJ was the best athlete in the league?
Not counting the 95’ comeback b/c he wasn’t in prime shape.

93 at the latest imo and I might actually give that year to Hakeem or DRob. By 96 it was either DRob or Shaq. Possibly Sprewell(among guards).

How are you assessing this?
I think if we are talking all players, Jordan was arguably never the top athlete (and certainly not once David Robinson entered the league). All non-bigs, okay, that increases the range, but how are you assessing his “athleticism” against someone like Larry Johnson’s?
Among wings, old Jordan has no case against Grant Hill. Among guards specifically… eh, there were some explosive talents. Can we really say 1996 Jordan is more athletic than 1996 Penny?
Among perimetre players I am pretty okay saying 1993, but I am not committed to it.

I'd agree that 89 should be a possible answer given its very credible to take DRob over him and he came into the league in 1990. This is always subjective but I'd say MJ/DRob/Shaq & Hakeem are all on a similar tier depending on what you want to prioritize.

Hakeem, Nique, 80's Barkley, Shaq, DRob, Shawn Kemp, Pippen, Rodman, Larry Johnson, Grant Hill, Vince, Kobe
If there were to be a year, it'd be somewhere between '84-'89.

92 or 93 for Wings I guess
89 or 90 (David Robinson) in terms of overall

None of them were the sheer athlete MJ was before his 93’ retirement. The combination of explosiveness and coordination was unmatched. Only Grant Hill surpassed him in 96’ in that regard I’d say. After the Olympics he started off kinda slow in 93’ but regained elite physical superiority by January that season. Jordan and Young Pippen were the two best athletes in the league during the first three peat.

Was Jordan a better athlete than Hakeem?
