Raptors have tried to trade Siakam multiple times but every time their effort has been torpedoed because Siakam's camp leaked that he will not resign with the new team and instead will test free agency. No team would trade for Siakam in this case.

it's just the ugly side of when player and team interests don't align. The team and situation that Pascal once coveted here doesn't exist anymore. So he defaults to doing what's best for him to preserve his bag as best as he can, while also maintaining his ability to choose the best situation for himself this summer. Meanwhile, we try to get the best deal we can to help reshape the roster.

I believe his preference is to get the bag and stay in Toronto.
You can't fault either of those. Players just don't do hometown discounts unless named Bosh and give a destination club a discount.

He is trying to maximize his pay cheque and this could be his last big contract. In case of a tie breaker he would like to chose a team/city like Dallas instead of say,...Detroit. The FO does not seem to want to max him out at 5 years as the teams young promising player Barnes overlaps with Pascal. And here we are.

his preference is to get the bag, you think in a vacuum he'd want to continue playing here?

Masai doesnt leak. You say they have tried to trade Siakam multiple times but I dont believe it or they would have.

Seemed like the franchise prioritized individual goals for players before team objectives. They could say otherwise but the actions speak louder.

It’s as simple as every man looking out for themselves. Pascal wants the most money so he’s holding us hostage and declining other teams.
Part of it too could be that other teams aren’t even offering him the max and it would make sense why he would decline.
In any case, if the FO traded him sooner when he had more years left he wouldn’t have the leverage that he would now.
It sucks, don’t get me wrong but as annoying as it is, I can’t blame the guy.

For sure we’ve been trying to trade him by virtue of us not extending him. Masai was asked in training camp and he admitted no offer had been made.

Pascal does not have to sign with a random team in order to appease the front office. I'm not sure why people expect him to make a critically important life decision in the middle of a season for a team he has never played on and a city he has never lived in.

The max is not an issue. All the teams who want to trade for him, want to give him max. He can easily agree for any trade and get the max from that team. He is a max player.
So the issue is something different. He is punishing Raptors.

That came out when ATL wanted him. he knows we don't want to pay him the max and knows we would facilitate a move in the offseason. He's not dumb

He said "max?", we said "show us". We're 15-24, seen enough.

TLDR version - You call a player selfish, and then expect them to work with you to get trade leverage or contract leverage? That's a bold strategy Cotton.
---------------------------------------------
So now it Siakam's fault since the team waited to the lowest leverage point to trade him (pending FA). The lowered returns on a pending FA, is a management issue and not a Siakam issue
The team didn't owe anything to Siakam. They had been respectful of him - got a great contract which he generally met.
But in my view management hasn't given him much respect this year. Management has been passive aggressively taking shots at him since the beginning of camp (much less not really engaging in any negotiations) The team certainly could have offered him more respect (and I'm not talking about giving him a max or even signing him) -- I'm sure there was some strategy to it -- new culture, to protect their own asses, to try to sign him for less, maybe to get a bidding war with him wanting out ASAP.
Not sure what exactly the strategy but it was a very risky play and in my view questionable.
After all those passive shots, you now expect the guy to take a discount or work with you on trades.
I can see why Siakam is not fully co-operative - if that is even what is happening.
Put it this way - you know a team has been actively looking to trade you all year, has been taking shots at you, and now you are supposed to work with them so they can maximize the return they get from you, so that your new team will be worse off?

Captain Phillips is an outright pirate. The issue with guys like him and Fred is they’ve poisoned their minds about being paid. You got to realize guys like him coming from Cameron this is a one in a billion opportunity. He grew up not thinking American dream, so every dollar he gets counts.

This is going to be the biggest contract of his career. I don't really blame him for trying to milk every dollar.
