The Sixers and Joel Embiid’s Health

Post#1 » by GrandTheftRondo » Wed Jan 31, 2024 4:30 am

Forget about all the ducking stuff, there’s something far more concerning going on here.

Do the Sixers even care about Embiid’s long term health?

This is a team that has routinely had a banged up Embiid at the pointy end of the season.

Yet here we are in February in a season where Embiid’s main goal really should be to prove himself in the playoffs and he’s out here hobbling on one leg in a random regular season game.

Then over the past few weeks they’ve put him back in games to chase meaningless streaks after he’s injured himself only to miss games after.

Either Embiid is far too obsessed with the MVP or the Sixers medical staff are just really stupid.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team with so little regard for the long term health of their star player, particularly one so injury prone.

If your a star player who wants to be in these conversations for mvp, be there for the team & tough it out, make money, then you need to play a certain amount of minutes.

The point is why should Embiid or the Sixers even care so much about the MVP anymore.

A title is the only thing that should matter.

Embiid has consistently had issues with knee sprains over the course of his career. Mind boggling they’re playing him hobbled in a February game and putting him at risk of further injury.

I just checked and its not even like there is a solid window where he can miss one game and get some recovery time in. Philly have a game every second day until I think the 14th of February. If its as bad as it looks today he shouldn't be playing, but gotta stay in that MVP race.

Ask Embiid

I mean the Sixers have consistently been a disaster when it comes to injury management of players so them being incompetent yet again wouldn’t shock me.

Embiid cares way too much about what people think and he cares too much about the MVP.

If he's injured, he shouldn't play. His camp just said he doesn't care about MVP and wants to be healthy for the playoffs.

Tonight's game says otherwise.

We’ll see.

Chris Haynes just said on the telecast that his priority is to be healthy for the playoffs and isn’t interested in the MVP.

His actions so far say otherwise. Staying in the game late into the 4th quarter against the Knicks while getting blown out wasn’t a good look.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out

The break for the all star weekend is on the 14th of feb, he would play 5 mins maybe less in the all star game, and he could get all the treat in 5 days, as Philly plays on the 19th, ( he might even skip the game on the 14th to have additional treatment) to get more healthier, another reason, there's money to be made for both parties.

What’s wrong with being interested in winning the mvp

That’s an award that’s great for players legacies

It’s not like Embiid was able to stay healthy even when he was being load managed.

Nothing wrong with wanting to win it. And it makes sense to consider how much the candidate plays when deciding who gets it.

The teams should be looking to get ready for the playoffs. Embiid has historically worn down in the playoffs. He had more value to his team if he is healthy and fresh once the playoffs start.

If he’s been baited into playing hurt that’s definitely a mistake. No good will come of it. Not putting him on the injury report early was dumb. If he was hurt he was hurt.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

It’s pretty strange for an NBA star to value MVPs over actually winning titles

Its already over he cant win mvp at this point.

Only have 13 points at this point, if by some miracle he can reach the game count his stats would be so much lower he wouldnt even be a top 5 candidate.

Embiid admitted last season it contributed to him being injured and not ready for the playoffs therefore damaging his teams chances for a ring.

Essentially he put himself over the team. If that’s what you want from your star, then good for you.
