Lakers and Mavs switch it up.

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Sat Feb 3, 2024 3:19 am

Lakers get THJ, GWill, DJJ, Exum

Dallas get DLo, Rui, Prince, 2xSRPs

Exum, Reaves, Vando, LeBron, Davis -- Vincent, THJ, DJJ, GWill, Wood
Lakers fill out their bench better

Doncic, Kyrie, Prince, Rui, Lively -- DLo, Curry, Green, Kleber, Powell
Dallas get some more size on their squad

Dallas isn't taking on DLo or Rui while giving up useful players. This is a trade that only benefits the Lakers

Don't really see what this does for Dallas on the court, but it certainly reduces flexibility so no real interest. THJ is good matching salary. Exum is dirt cheap depth. Williams a better stylistic fit than Rui. Russell doesn't fit and can opt out, keeping the Mavs from having matching salary this summer.

No real interest in this. Feels like making a trade just to make one and it trades 3 good defensive players and a guard with size for 2 bad defensive players. Dallas needs to go the other direction.

Yeah in some ways it's doing a trade to just mix things ups for both teams with pieces that fit needs slightly better.

If this were

Grant Williams, THJ to LAL
Rui and ??? to Dallas
Russell to third team

With whoever getting the 2nds. I think there would be a shot at building a deal that makes sense. But the DAR/THJ swap only hurts Dallas. And the bench player swap hurts Dallas..

Trade value probably is fair but fit and financials makes it pretty rough IMO.

I’d really like in the offseason if Dallas split the MLE between DJJ/Exum on 3 year deals, instead of letting Exum play out his 3 mil.. Assuming Exum finishes the season healthy.

I dont think you would want to be hard capped though?

They did this year.

I know next offseason is “the offseason”… but we’ve lived through a lot of unfulfilled offseason dreams the last 10-15 years (20 years? 25?).

But realistically, once Dallas makes their sad Kuzma or Grant trade.. avoiding the hard cap won’t be hard.

Exum is signed for next year (team option), only DJJ needs to be re-signed at TPMLE, so the hardcapping is at 2nd Apron not 1st, least of my worries really, with the way things are trending, totally different and sad direction needs to be discussed.

I'm not interested in investing 3 years in Exum. He's been better than expected, but this shooting isn't sustainable and sadly much like his previous NBA tenure, this guy's body just can't handle an NBA season it doesn't appear.

But also like Jay and Mavrelous not worried about the hard cap really.

Oh I just posted a random idea where Exum doesn’t play for 3 million. Instead him and DJJ split the MLE however and Dallas locks up guys you’re okay playing 18-20 mpg into contracts below 8 million for 3 years.

But if we go back 3-4 years some of my takes on Exum… My bias is pretty well documented with him and Alec.

Oh, I'd split the MLE for Burks, I share your bias :) Exum has played really well, but 17 games missed when Kyrie is also down hurt like hell, Mavs need more reliable 3rd PG is they are keeping Kyrie.
