Sixth Annual California Classic Summer League Expanded to Dual Location Event
The NBA's sixth annual California Classic will look a little different this summer.

The Kings and Warriors on Wednesday announced they will partner up to host an expanded dual California Classic summer league event in both Sacramento and San Francisco.

It will feature three days of action at Golden 1 Center on July 6, 7 and 9 showcasing the Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, while Chase Center's events will take place on July 6, 7 and 10 with the Warriors, Kings, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat.

A total of 12 games will be played featuring rookies selected in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, sophomore players and others competing to make NBA and G League rosters.

And of course, the event will end with a bang as the final game played will be between the brewing Northern California rivals, the Warriors and Kings, on July 10 at Chase Center.

Similar to past summer league games, modified game play rules will be in place, including 10-minute quarters.

Team rosters, game matchups, entertainment, fan activations, broadcast information and additional ticket options will be announced at later dates.

In between draft rounds, and if Davison returns, there's potentially a good looking summer league roster being built:

Davison, Springer, Scheierman, Walsh, Queta
Peterson, second rounder

I hadn't considered it since he's new here, but someone mentioned in another thread that Springer has been in the league longer than Davison so not sure how likely he is to be on the roster (even though imo he's playing for his NBA future). Queta might be in the same boat, but more likely to skip as he's gotten more minutes with the Celtics and did well enough last season to get a regular deal. The rest I think should all be locks to play.

Based on Brad Steven's press conference the other day, they want all these guys to ramp up and be ready for a greater role. Summer league's an opportunity to begin that.

I read today that Davison is eligible to agree to a re-up in his current role, but there's no word yet if he wants to.

Anyone can play in Summer League; though, most only play in their 1st and 2nd year.
That said, I think that Springer and Queta will play.

Players cannot play a 3rd Two-Way for the Same Team. So Davison would have to sign an NBA contract to play for the Celtics in 2024-25. However, he can play for the Summer League. Might be a good idea for him.

I thought there was something like that too, but this is from Gary Washburn's column today:

Meanwhile, the Celtics will have to decide what to do with former second-round pick JD Davison, who is likely to seek a standard NBA contract from another club if the Celtics decide to move on. Although players are generally limited to two years of two-way contracts with one team, the Celtics could negotiate a third year for Davison if he chooses.

Wow. I never heard of that. Washburn might be wrong on that?

Edit 1:
Contract length
Two-way contracts can be for up to two years, with no more than $75,000 guaranteed per seas

So actually, it looks like they can sign again for a third (or even 4th) year. It's just that no one has done it.

Edit 2
So, I just went back to the CBA 2023. Cause everything else was a bit conflicting.

NBA CBA, 2023
Article II;
Section 11. Two-Way Contracts;
(e) Eligibility;
(iii)

No Team may sign or convert a player to a Two-Way
Contract, or acquire a Two-Way Contract by means of
assignment, if, as a result, the player would or could be under
a Two-Way Contract for any part of more than three (3)
Salary Cap Years with the same NBA Team. For example,
a player who completes a two-year Two-Way Contract with
a Team could not subsequently sign a two-year Two-Way
Contract with that Team.

I think he should play too. He needs to prove his roster position and his binky status lol. I just more meant I hadn't even considered an argument for him not playing in SL and the one another poster presented at least made sense. Not sure how much he could even prove in SL anyways to be honest with what type of player he is. Extended that reasoning to Queta as well.

Hate to say it but I think the JD Davison dream is dead. If he ends up being an NBA player, it doesn't seem like it's gonna be in Boston. Hopefully we start seeing more of Walsh too or he might be next.

Yeah. JD Davison probably gets one more Summer League, to solidify which way he's going.
Celtics may not re-sign him, even after Summer League.

But, why not. Davison could potentially impress another Team, for an NBA Contract, or another Two-Way.

JD Walsh Scheierman Watson + 1 should do well in the summer league. Veteran squad by SL standards. Hope they can find a rim runner/lob threat to run pick and roll with

Tillman and Pritchard have played over 250 NBA games. There is no chance they play in summer league. Springer and Queta probably have too much NBA experience to accept/benefit from playing summer league either.

Springer's 21 and Queta has only played in parts of 47 NBA games.

If all these guys play, that's a strong team:

Davison, Springer, Scheierman, Walsh, Queta
Peterson, Watson
