What if the Suns traded Amare for KG in '07?

Post#1 » by ardee » Mon Jun 17, 2024 5:57 am

This was being discussed heavily and very much on the table, and I'd have honestly been happier if it had happened because Nash really deserved a legit shot at a title.

How does a team of Nash-Bell-Hill-Marion-KG with Barbosa and Diaw off the bench pan out over the next 3 years?

Obviously it means we don't see a big 3 in Boston, leaving the door open for Ray Allen to go somewhere else, potentially the Cavs maybe?

Could see a pretty climactic WCF with Kobe/Pau vs Nash/KG, and then potentially either a Kobe/LeBron or Nash/KG vs LeBron finals in '08.

They don't automatically win anything but they compete well. Still think that team falls much like they did because Garnett wasn't quite the scorer Amare was and the defense on the perimeter was that bad.

How was KG as a roll man in his athletic prime? Honest question, as I don't recall seeing it a ton, but he seems like he has the skill set and physical tools to be lethal there.

Realistically, I thinks this team wins it all. Without suspensions and a broken nose, they very easily could've won it all in 07 even with Amare.

Garnett would have looked a lot better with Nash setting the table and Phoenix's spacing, though, and having Nash capable of scoring 18+ ppg on high efficiency to support. And Phoenix would have been IMMEDIATELY considerably better on defense with one of the best defenders of the 2000s versus one of the worst defenders I've seen. Also, the defense on the perimeter was not "that bad" with Shawn Marion, Raja Bell and Boris Diaw.

They're favorites in my book in 2008 and 2010.

Their 07 team would probably be better than any iteration of the Kerr era Warriors save for 2017.

They’d be sweep the WC playoffs good.

Probably the best playoff offense of all-time immediately in 05.

The only real counter to Nash was to trap him in the PNR and exploit his height a bit. KG 4 on 3s would’ve been 99% of other teams best offensive setup and it’s their worst case scenario offensively.

Solidly good defense and like a +10 offense or something preposterous at their best.
Swinging for the fences.

Can we throw in Joe Johnson who was a perfect fit in that offense and was their best backup PG for a year?
