Cavaliers Confident About Extension With Donovan Mitchell

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 24, 2024 1:32 pm

The Cleveland Cavaliers are confident that they'll reach an agreement with Donovan Mitchell on a contract extension. Cleveland can offer Mitchell a four-year, $208.5 million extension that would start with next season.

In that scenario, Mitchell will decline his $37.1 million player option for 2025-26 and replace it with a $42.5 million salary in the first year of a four-year extension.

Cleveland can't offer Mitchell the so-called supermax extension, because the Cavs didn't acquire him while he was still on his rookie scale contract. Designated Player extension, like the one Jayson Tatum is expected to sign with the Boston Celtics this summer, can only be offered to players the team draft or acquired before the end of their initial rookie scale contract.
