Inevitable but good for him nonetheless.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Inevitable indeed. Good on him. Raps fans will be happy its done quickly and painlessly I'd imagine. Now the real work can begin.

20, 8 and 6 with nearly 3 stocks a game at the age of 22. Yeah, makes sense for a max extension

Good for him, and good for Toronto with the fifth year.

It's a lot but who else would Raptors give this money to. Better off just betting on the young man to keep rising.

Oh yeah to be clear I didn't expect the Raps would do any differently, nor should they have. He's your franchise guy, lock him up early and keep him happy instead of playing games when this was the inevitable outcome.

I thought Bane's was slightly less.

It is the same deal, just without the All-NBA kicker. Which makes sense because far more likely Barnes makes All-NBA then Bane.

Worth it, don't think he will ever be a take games over by himself type of player but do everything well type of player, perfect low maintenance star player. If Raptors can keep IQ for "cheap" they can start imagining a decent future. That being said, Poetl trade was an all time bad move

Yeah the Poetl trade was definitely one of those "You still value centers like the Bulls did in 2021 and didn't learn from that?"

Interested to hear about IQ's next deal...If TOR gets lucky, noone will waste time pitching an offer that's bound to be matched. If it's $25m - fine...$30m+ could get ugly.

Seeing this laid out like this really hammers home that you can't look at current and past salaries and cringe at newer contracts. All focus needs to be on the percentage of the cap. $51mil projects to be only 22% of the cap in 6 years. That's mind boggling.

He deserves it but man. Cade is gonna get one of these causing all kinds of debates.
Same with Mobley. Probably neither guy is quite there at this point, but it's going to happen.
Gets tricky in HOU with Green.

If I had to guess right now, I'd say that Cade and Mobley both get rookie maxes (with maybe a TO or UNG money on the back end) and Green doesn't get extended this offseason.

Re: [Wojnarowski]: Barnes To Re-Sign In Toronto [Rookie Scale Max]
Barnes, with the all-NBA kicker to 30% of the max, is a good deal
Barnes at 25% of the max is a great deal. It's still solid even if he doesn't advance much from the current level where he squeaked into the All-Star game as an injury replacement.
This deal makes a bit of an argument for Toronto to do a mini-tank because it is really hard to see Scottie making an all-NBA team if/when TOR falls short of the Play-in and having him locked in at less than 25% of the cap makes it easier to build a team around him. Trading/releasing Brown and leaving the backup PG to a rookie or UDA ought to be enough to insure a mini-tank; trading Poeltl and leaving the starting C spot to Olynyk would cement it, but has downsides in terms of development/roles/growth. I say just leave backup PG as the festering sore it has been for the last 3 years so that the cap sheet can look good through the rest of the decade.

In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind
