Utah - Miami - Houston
Miami out: Butler, 2030 1st, 2029 swap
Miami in: Lauri, Brooks, Tate
Houston out: Brooks, Whitmore, Jalen Green, Tate, 2025 1st
Houston in: Butler
Utah trade: Lauri
Utah receive: Tate, Jalen Green, Whitmore, better of HOU/PHX 2025 1st, MIA 2030 1st, MIA 2029 swap
Why for Miami: Retool around a younger lauri to pair with Bam/Herro
Why for Houston: consolidate their prospects for a star. imo Udoka will love Butler.
Why for Utah: rumored to want good prospects more than just picks so here they get 2 high upside prospects and 2 picks & a swap for Lauri
I could use help balancing the picks here.

I see no way the Heat add picks to Butler. That's a pick a direction move.

Yeah, I'm not adding picks or swaps to Butler for Lauri.

Or he can sign with one of a dozen other teams that might offer him a chance at a ring. This is a chance to accelerate your timeline.

I'm not interested in swapping Lauri for Green and picks, but maybe Ainge would feel differently since he loves to get a player + picks so he can spin the player for a different player + picks later.

Given age and contract status i think Lauri is worth more than Butler. They get 5 yrs of lauri's prime vs Butler's 2-3 remaining

Not everyone has max cap space.
Our timeline is fine as is.

They're both legitimate flight risks, although Butler seems to want to stay, but the Heat won't be better subbing Lauri for Butler regardless of their window. You don't add unprotected picks for a trade like that.

Jimmy Butler is too old to commit to. The window for him as an All-Star or playoff assassin isn't incredibly large at all. Trading key assets for him sounds very very very shortsided.

Re: Utah - Miami - Houston
Very few teams have cap space next year and Houston is the only one that was .500 or even anywhere close to it. Not spending assets to speed up one year when you can just wait with all the young guys and see who pops in the final try out year. Or even sign butler and trade those guys for another big time player. He's too old and unreliable health wise for Houston to commit to him like this plus presumably they'd then have to financially as wellBBallFreak wrote:LarsV8 wrote:We can just sign Butler next offseason if he wants to be here.

Butler is 35 before the season starts, adding only a 1st and a swap to replace him with Markannen is very conservative valuation of Markannen.
Both players are FAs next year, so contract situation isn't favourable for Butler.
I'd remove the 25 1st, Jazz have no use for it anyway, they have 3 next year and lots of young players.

No thanks from Houston. Butler is too old to give up real assets for.
