NYK-MEM-NO (Ingram and OG)
NYK: Brandon Ingram, 2025 Memphis 1st (unprotected), 2027 Mem 1st (protected top 10 in 27, top 8 in 28, unprotected 29)
MEM: OG Anunoby
NO: Marcus Smart, Luke Kennard
Why for NY: The roster has a desperate need for shot creation. While Ingram isn’t an ideal player and the thought of maxing out both him and Towns is scary, NY has limited flexibility. Recouping some draft capital offsets this risk.
Why for Memphis: They add more size and shooting to their perimeter. They had been linked to Anunoby in the past and they push chips in to give Ja/Bane/JJJ the best 2-3 year window possible.
Why for New Orleans: the Ingram market is quiet, so they break the contract into two pieces to at least get something for him.

Re: NYK-MEM-NO (Ingram and OG)
Memphis needs to send out more salary in order to stay under the hard cap at the first apron they’d incur here. This trade would put them at 13 players without enough room to sign a 14th, so at least a LaRavia sized deal.
I assume Memphis would want to send out Clarke instead of Kennard, though, as OG is a large long term deal now, and they’d probably need to move relatively equal long term money.

OG on that contract is not worth 3 1sts

Would Clarke fit in New Orleans? I could see NY entertaining a Clarke/Mitchell Robinson swap but they likely would want another draft asset back.

It’s two firsts to take on the risk of Ingram’s deal vs the certainty of OG’s deal

Re: NYK-MEM-NO (Ingram and OG)
I just don't know if Memphis would view OG on his new contract worth this, especially with his health history. Clarke would likely have to go out here instead of Kennard to balance our future books. I don't think we do anything until the deadline, then OG's value will be much clearer and VWill and Smart ability to handle the SF duties will also be known. If OG is healthy and returns to his good play of year's past then this is something Memphis might do.

Not really sure why the Pels do this. Its a switch one two expiring contracts for one, so there are no long term costs, but neither of the players mention play positions of need. And it facilitates a great fit for a division rival. That's fine if it makes us better but it doesn't so again, not sure why we would do this.

Re: NYK-MEM-NO (Ingram and OG)
The Pels have Herb Jones. They don't need, nor likely want Smart. What they really need is a center and none are being offered here.
I don't know what kind of value O.G. holds on a max deal, but the Knicks wouldn't improve it by panic shopping him after one game.

Easy pass for Memphis. No interest in either OG or his contract. Smart is a 5x times better player who can be extended for far less money.

If he truly was a 5x better player, he won't be extended for far less money. He'd be a sure thing max contract guy if he were that good, no?

I do think some posters are writing off Smart a lot too fast. I do think he is a positive player in his own right and likely would command a later 1st in a trade right now. I also think there is a high chance that OG doesn't play up to his contract and leaning towards him not having this trade value as of right now league wide, I think Memphis FO would see this as offering 3 1sts in value here.
But I think Memphis' biggest hesitation would be that we really think VWill can be the starter and give us a lot of what OG does on the defensive end and likely close to same offensive production as the 4/5 option while playing on a near min contract for several more years. Allows us to pay JJJ in the future without as much tax concerns as OG would cause.

How is Smart 5x the better player?

I still love Smart. I’m just pointing out that there’s absolutely no basis for saying Smart is 5x better than OG is, and if he was, he wouldn't extend for much less than the max.

I like Smart but “5x times better player” is pure hyperbole.
Clutch?
Ok, Marcus.

Re: NYK-MEM-NO (Ingram and OG)
OG is a no go on his current salary. Smart is not 5X better but could be just as effective for half the price. GG and Vince have an opportunity this year to take the starting spot. They are on minimum deals. So cost vs production is a big thing here.

Also not sure why Grizz just wouldn’t offer Smart and Clarke for BI. We become top 5 offense and keep most of our picks with that move.

Yeah I get why it’s great for Memphis but again I’m not sure why the Pels do this. Like what’s in it for them? Why would they fix a hole in the Memphis roster without helping themselves?
