Scout: Victor Wembanyama 'Not Impactful At All On Offense'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 8, 2024 5:46 pm

Victor Wembanyama is shooting 14-for-62 (22.6 percent) on three-pointers this season and 41 percent from the field. Wembanyama is already one of the NBA's best defensive players, but his ability to create efficient offense will go a long ways in determining his ceiling.

"He's absolutely awesome on defense, and not impactful at all on offense," an opposing scout, who firmly believes in Wembanyama's long-term potential, told ESPN. "He just looks like he's playing without a whole lot of direction."

"There's a reason he's shooting so many," another scout told ESPN, "but it still feels like he's giving the opposition a break every time he does it right now."

Another scout told ESPN that Wembanyama appears tired early this season. Wembanyama played in 71 NBA games last season followed by the Paris Olympics.

Last season, Wembanyama shot 26.3 percent and then 27.3 percent on three-pointers in October and November. In February, Wembanayma shot 41.3 percent on three-pointers before it dipped to 30.8 percent in March.

Clearly true at the moment, but his shooting % doesn't really matter right now because winning isn't a priority. What does matter is creating good habits for when winning is a priority. You can learn to play winning basketball, even while you are losing. If Wemby is taking the right shots, in the flow of the offense, make or miss is irrelevant.

He’s on the perimeter to much and is not a lights out shooter. His efficiency would be better if he improves his post game. He needs to get strong in his lower body to demand the ball in the post. He should be hook shotting the league to death. Instead they have him on the perimeter shooting mid ranges and 3’s as if he’s 6’4 and not 7’4

Clueless donkeys . They are rebuilding and the spurs have instructed him to hang on the outside protecting his slim frame from unnecessary physicality while he becomes a real man

I hope that scout doesn't work for OKC.

He isn't an impact offensive player yet. That isn't wrong. Scout didn't say the guy could never be, just described obvious, objective truth about Wemby's O at the moment.
