Biggest concerns for the NBA?

Post#1 » by Duffman100 » Wed Nov 20, 2024 4:58 pm

All sports struggle with watchability, to varying degrees. Some say NBA struggles are growing in number and severity. I know I prefer at times to watch NFL over non Raptors NBA games now.

What are your top 3 things that NBA need to address?

3 point shot is to prevalent
Tanking culture is a cancer
Superstars sitting (and injuries) seem worse than ever
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Everybody doing the same BS
Too much player empowerment with salaries going bonkers and superstars demanding trades
Stars don't care about regular season (except when there's $$$ on the line) so why should we?

I would like to see greater player tenure within the same team. There’s something magical about stars with team legacies rather than team hopping.

There could be some bonuses or some incentives that reward players for staying with the same team without punishing the salary cap.

They already see this as a value and have some things like early extensions/higher resigning contracts. I wonder if it could be more explicit around a loyalty bonus that doesn’t impact the salary cap.

Three point shooting mostly.... and horrible.biased reffing.

Preferred 70s,80s, 90s basketball to today's chuckfest.

With players playing longer, and with the high salaries we have now, there needs to be something done about the young rookies who don’t contribute and eat up a full salary.

Make the rookie contracts 5 years instead of 4, with greater partial guarantees in year 3/4/5.

A lot of guys don’t really contribute until year 3. Teams need to be able to draft and develop them for longer.

Hey let's add a play-in to make it so almost everyone makes it in. Oh, and let's have a tournament that kills the regular season.

Over reliance on 3pt shooting & stars missing games.

And with that tournament, lets make sure they're played on horribly awfully ugly floors that give people headaches and makes them want to change the channel.

Let's call it the "your name here" cup, where the person who gives us the most money gets to name it!

The intent of the tournament is actually great: Make regular season games count for more.

The execution needs to change. Right now it’s all over the place and we don’t know what’s a tournament vs non tournament game. I’d like them to simplify it, honestly they will get a lot of people to understand it better.

I would redo it, where each division/conference plays amongst themselves and the winners have a play-in, culminating on Christmas Day. Kinda modeled after the NCAA.

More than 3. One aspect that bothers me is the regional and national TV productions. They're consistently underwhelming, boring, stale, unoriginal, etc. Too many of the hosts, guests and game action announcers add little to the entertainment. The number of these people have at least doubled over the years. Honestly grabbing random fans off the street would be much better.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

It's just such a ham-handed, shoehorned cash grab.

Agreed. 9 teams played again the night after their 1st Cup game. That's ridiculous IMO. You want everyone to treat these games as more "important", then the league should spend more than 1 hour on the schedule of said games.

Kevin O'Connor had some pretty good ideas on how this "tournament" should be scheduled.

Another league already does this better. I'd just leave it to them.

Celtics chucking 50-60 threes per game is unwatchable.....it's too blatant. As soon as one of their players gets the ball you know they're backpeddling to the 3pt line to chuck one up.

I think it was Thunder / Mavs, I watched 13 straight 3s between the two teams put up.
