Sneaky Trade Candidate: Lonzo Ball

Post#1 » by magee » Thu Nov 28, 2024 1:58 am

With his contract set to expire, should the Bulls pursue seeing what they might be able to get for him from a playoff team looking for depth during their playoff push? What teams would he fit in with? And what would a package be centered around for him? A 4/5? Young talent? Picks?

His contract is around $21 mill, for what it's worth.

I can't see why you would give up anything of value for him. He's only played 3 games. Still hasn't shown he can be counted on, or that there's anything left.

Is he a good NBA rotation player? I can't see much interest in him from anyone unless the Bulls are willing to absorb a bad longer contract. His stats don't look good in limited time this year.

Ball, pick compensation, salary filler for Grant, Simons, or Ayton

Why would the Bulls absorb a bad contract when Lonzo's expires this year? It's not as if they're going to be competitive this year. If no team will give positive value, they can just let him expire.

I'd take him on the magic but wouldn't give up anything of value to get him (a 2nd rd pick would be what I'd give up). He's an expiring contract and who the hell knows if he'll make it through the end of this season alone?

I think that's the selling point... His only real value at the moment is as an expiring so perhaps a team gives up a draft pick or a young player the Bulls want if the Bulls take back a two+ year contract for his expiring.... if not, I can't see why the Bulls would be able to get anything of value for him unless they absorb someone.

He can’t get by people and barely drives to the basket, he basically a spot up shooter at the moment. Teams shouldn’t give up much for him.

Do you realize you're describing him pre-injury as well?

His defense and shooting still look great. He could definitely help a team.
Let's see if he can play through XMAS (his last thing was a wrist, not the knee). Guy's a great candidate for someone who wants a vet to give 15 minutes of smart, team play

As others said, if no one is interested, Bulls just let him expire

Seems like LaVar wants his boys in LA together (at least that is what he said). How about Lonzo for Bones Hyland, Kobe Brown and PJ Tucker? Seems an easy way for LA to make a strong move for the future (ie LaMelo) and for Chicago to get a couple of decent young prospects to try out. Kobe Brown is especially interesting and more than offsets Lonzo's value and Bones is very underrated.

Unfortunately for Lonzo and the Bulls his value is just as an expiring at this point. It’s not even hyperbole to say he’s the most injury prone player in the league right now. He’s way more injury prone than Embiid and even more injury prone than Jonathan Isaac and Robert Williams at this point.

I’ve been a Lonzo fan since his UCLA days but every single season of his career he’s missed a significant amount of time. In theory he’s a valuable two way guard but he simply can’t stay on the floor.

He’s looked really good in the limited minutes he’s played this season. Lonzo certainly doesn’t looked like he’s lost anything athletically pre-injury.

Clearly he’s done a heavy minute rotation player. If I was a contender, I’d be seriously considering acquiring him for a bench rotation.

IF he was healthy during a playoff run, it would be a great pickup. Hes a super impactful player than can play in literally ANY lineup with ALL types of players and not disrupt anything.

I wouldn’t trade for him because he’s definitely signing for the mid level to play with brother and rehab is value for a year.

I could see the Lakers biting because he will be better for what they need than DLo and the money does line up easily.

Simple deal, DLo + Christian Wood for Lonzo Ball. Guarantee Lonzo wants to stay a Laker too.
