The New York Mets vaulted up the odds to win the World Series at sportsbooks, leapfrogging the New York Yankees, with the addition of superstar Juan Soto.

The Mets moved from +1200 to +750 on Sunday night at ESPN BET after the news broke. The Mets are behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers (+375). The Atlanta Braves also are +750 to win the World Series at ESPN BET.

The Mets need more than Juan Soto to be WS favorites. They need to resign Pete Alonso, resign other guys and sign a starting pitcher as well as some relievers. Not sure why the odds change so drastically without even knowing the final product. Soto is good, but he isn't going to pitch.

Yes, it makes sense to be better than the Yankees, since they literally took one of their best players, but I'm not sure about being in the conversation yet until they fix the rest of the roster.

Stearns, over his career, has shown that he can put together a team with guys that are not "stars."

He now brings in a "star" in Soto. He also nabbed Holmes (another former Yankee), and has a sneaky signing in Frankie Montas (who could be another reclamation piece). Cohen has also said they are not done spending.

I would not consider the Mets World Series favorites, but you have to give them an edge over the Yankees, at least at this early point.
