Forbes: Raps valued at $4.4B !!(47th worldwide)
My goodness have times changed. Remembering the days where the Leafs were carrying us financially or so they said. Is it me or were we under $3B a year ago? This franchise keeps appreciating in value. Great to see!

I can't believe the Patroits are still over $7 billion. They should definitely be under 7.

Re: Forbes: Raps valued at $4.4B !!(47th worldwide)
The league’s 30 franchises were worth $4.4 billion on average this year, a 15% increase over 2023
So Raps are average value. Which isn't bad for a lottery team, especially one in a market where sports radio completely ignores them most of the time - all of the time in primetime.
OTOH, Raptors have a whole country to themselves. That has to be worth something.

Can't use average here as the top teams skew it. They're well above median, 10th most valuable franchise in the league.

Curious that GSW is still so high - you gotta imagine that it will plummet when Curry retires, it's not as if SF is a great market and they wouldn't hold much international or national interest afterwards.

A lot of money in SF; tickets, sponsorship, local TV rights. That’s really what separates the top teams from the rest of the league. They’ll drop from 1, but will stay top 5.

Not surprising. The NBA is global now with some players getting to soccer player salary territory.
If the NBA was still regional you would be seeing 500m valuations mostly.

My puckhead buddies would laugh when I told them it was only a matter of time before the Raps were WAY more valuable than the Leafs. Simple economics.

Why don't we get treated like it though?
TSN still puts CFL over us
i don't get it. what numbers are they using? are the raptors not drawing in as much viewership?

They were getting good viewership when they were good, but as far as I know that's dipped and it reflects in the attendance as well. The Raptors make money because the TV money is incredible in the NBA relative to the NHL.
As far as I know the CFL does get pretty good television ratings across the country. There's a lot of places without any other professional sports, so it makes some sense.

why is the tv money low? is it because the US doesnt care about hockey, and USD is stronger than CAD?

If only it were worth something to NBA free agents and US TV networks

There's a lot of money, but will it flow to the Warriors after Curry is gone? It's not like Toronto where money and eyeballs latch onto the Leafs no matter how they're doing. I know these valuations don't mean much, but they've got Brooklyn at nearly half GSW.
