The New York Mets are \"still engaged\" with free-agent Pete Alonso, according to owner Steve Cohen.

The Mets introduced Juan Soto and his $765 million contract on Thursday, but that may not preclude them from re-signing Alonso.

Alonso has 226 home runs over six seasons with the Mets.

I hope they re-sign him. You really need 2-3 big bats in today's MLB to stay in contention. They need pitching as well, but I'm okay with building around the hitters for once. Pete Alonso is already 30 so he's not getting a deal even comparable to Soto's. Soto / Lindor / Alonso is great group to build around.
