Rockets/Lakers
Lakers know they are flawed and start a rebuild. First step is securing talented youth for aging star.
Lakers trade Davis
Rockets trade Smith, Brooks, Shepherd, 25 FRP or 27 FRP.
Rockets move Davis to the 4 to pair with Sengun creating the best offensive front court.
Lakers start the rebuild with Smith, Knecht and Shepherd.

Re: Rockets/Lakers
I can't see the Lakers doing this, but Smith and Reed are good starts to an AD offer. And he would be amazing for Houston. I think Houston uses different matching salary than Brooks though. If you are adding AD you are going for it now so keep Brooks.

Re: Rockets/Lakers
I agree with Chuck’s excellent points. I like the idea of AD to Houston and LAL resetting with some valuable pieces, but I think more value needs to go to LA, and Brooks at 28 has a really solid positive impact and if you trade for AD you are pushing up your timeline and need win now guys like Brooks. I think to make the trade fair, one of Houston’s prized young guys need to go out.
AD is an MVP level player still in his prime, the price will be steep.

Re: Rockets/Lakers
If I were LAL I’d counter with Thompson, Eason, Smith and Shepherd. Idk if that still works for Salary matching.
I think both 25 and 27 FRP need to be included as well.
If I’m the Lakers that would interest me. If I’m the Rockets, that hurts a bit but you are now a legit contender.

AD is 31 and made of glass.
I don't see the Rockets being any more interested in him than they are in Durant or Butler.
They want younger players that align with their current player's timeline.

I can’t disagree if they want to keep the young team together and see what they can do, but they can’t trade for a star without giving up a guy with star potential.

Well I think AD is definitely a couple rungs above those guys both in positive impact and trade value. I get wanting to keep a younger core though.
I think the premise of this trade is cash in some high quality assets for a win now opportunity…with AD you still have a window of 3 or more years I think.

The Rockets best/core players are 21-23.
They still have at least a decade to build a contender.
Why trade those guys for an injury prone player with 2-3 good years left?

I hear you. It’s a decision of go for it now or develop and hope you grow into a contender.

I think that is pretty close to fair value there. If the Lakers were thinking about trading AD, that’s a really competitive package.

They absolutely can if they trade the right pieces for the right player. The biggest need for the team is a star level two-way guard. If the Rockets put out a package of Jalen Green, Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, and up to eight first round picks, they should be in position to add exactly what they want while keeping the core to their defense and not sacrificing rotational depth.

Is it Houston’s idea to wait or LAL’s in your idea? Houston should want to get this deal done now and not lose a playoff run of AD..
I feel like you can make that deal legal now using Washington and their TPE. Maybe needs a fourth team to convert one of Houston’s other mid sized bench players into 2minimum guys. But seems easy to work out..
I can’t see LAL trading AD, but I guess if we do say it’s this offseason you can call it a disappointing season and LBJ asking to be traded as well. Buying LAL a one year tank?

A star? Sure. They still have the assets for it.
A top 10 player? Youre gonna have to come up off of one of your better prospects. Maybe not eason or amen, but at least sheppard

Two issues, Stepien rule makes trading the 25 pick hard now. And need Greens new contract to kick in for salary matching.

Re: Rockets/Lakers
I think Houston should be patient, they are in a very good situation, save the ammunition... there are complicated decisions coming up for the Suns and this summer they could tempt them (with an offer that is very difficult to reject) by offering JGreen/Whitmore/Shepard + Suns FRPs back for Booker...

I have AD pretty clearly a tier (or two) more valuable than Jimmy Butler even if he declines that PO. For as much as people knock AD for not staying healthy, Jimmy Butler isn't the beacon of health. He's averaged ~60 GP over the last 5 seasons.

Green is negative value.
I'd say the 25 PHX pick is need to move him.
So this is just Jabari with and FRP and swap.
Lakers can do far better elsewhere.

Nope, but easier though if someone has that misguided view.
Adams, Landale, Tate, Jabari, Whitmore, 27 and 28 for Davis + bodies.
Could do it mid-season instead
