Talks Have Stalled Between Astros, Alex Bregman

The Houston Astros had hoped to re-sign Alex Bregman, but talks with the free agent stalled.

When negotiations hit a snag, the Astros acted quickly. They agreed to a three-year, $60 million deal with Christian Walker and acquired Isaac Paredes from Chicago Cubs in the trade that sent Kyle Tucker to the National League.

\"The way I view it right now is Paredes is going to play third base and Walker is going to play first base,\" general manager Dana Brown said. \"And Bregman\'s still a free agent.\"

The Astros won the American League West for a fourth straight year this season before they were swept by the Detroit Tigers in an AL Wild Card Series.

\"I thought we made a really competitive offer, showing that we wanted him back,\" Brown added. \"But we had to pursue other options. We couldn\'t just sit there. We locked in Paredes early in that trade, knowing that he could play third or first and then when the opportunity to add another bat came up, we just jumped on it.\"
