Jimmy Butler Has No Interest In Trade To Grizzlies

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jan 7, 2025 7:30 pm

The Memphis Grizzlies have received word that Jimmy Butler has no interest in being traded by the Miami Heat to their team, sources tell Chris Haynes. Butler can become a free agent in 2025 if he declines his $52 million player option for 25-26. A few other teams have also received similar messaging from Butler.

Butler previously was reported to be open to a trade to any team in the NBA.

Butler is seeking a multi-year contract during the 2025 offseason.

They are actually good. He clearly doesn't care about winning games, only where he lives

So his whole spiel about how he is willing to go to any team is obviously not true. Still, if I were the Heat, I trade him to the team with the best offer and then if he refuses to play he will only hurt himself as the NBA and NBPL will end up getting involved and he will lose a ton of money and be unable to become a free agent for not fulfilling his current contract. My guess is the team with the best offer will end up be a team he does want to play for, because no sane team will just give up assets for a huge unknown.

I usually am one for players having the ability to have a say in where he goes, but at this point with Jimmy, I am inclined to believe he is the problem. This has basically happened on every single team he played for where he ended up having a bad break up with each team for a reason or another. The Bulls, Wolves, Sixers and now the Heat.

I really hope the Grizzlies weren’t inquiring about this fake star.

Old players tend to not want to go to the Grizzlies. This same thing happened with Andre Igoudala back in the day few years ago.

I wonder why considering Tennessee has been rated as one of the best places for retirees and also has no state income taxes.

u calling jimmy a retiree lol that term in this context doesn’t apply to nba players. he won’t even be 40. retirees are 60 plus

What's left in Memphis if Butler was traded there? Butler accounts for 34.7% of the salary cap! Miami might just be stuck with this one.

The easiest way to put it is that retirees are in their 60s or older while Butler is in his 30s. What old people want and what a person in their 30s want really don't align, without going too in depth.

I think it may have been the same reason in pretty much all of them - money. Difference is this is probably the first time he is not worth the money he is asking for.
