ATL GIVES: Larry Nance & Agrees that SAC no longer owes ATL their 2026 & 2027 2nds if their 2026 SAC 1st doesn’t convey to ATL
WHY FOR ATL? When the Kings traded for Huerter, they gave ATL a protected 1st round pick. It has not conveyed yet and is top 12 protected in 2025 and top 10 protected in 2026. If the pick doesn’t convey in 2026, ATL gets SAC’s 2026 and 2027 2nd round picks as a consolation prize. With the Kings below .500 and currently not in the play-in picture, it’s possible that ATL could not end up with one of SAC’s 1sts (2025 or 2026). By changing the protection on the 2026 1st from top 10 protected to top 4 protected, it makes it a very high likelihood that ATL will receive a 1st from SAC. In order to improve their odds of having that 1st convey, ATL agrees to forgo their consolation prize of the 2026 & 2027 SAC 2nds. They also save $9.1 mil this year by sending out Nance for McDermott (who has guys like Capela, Okongwu, Johnson, Risacher, & Hunter ahead of him in the rotation)

Why for SAC? The Kings avoid sending out a future 1st (considering Fox’s future is a bit unknown), but rebalance the roster by moving Huerter for a PF/SF. With Carter back from injury, he can take over Huerter's guard minutes while Harris gives us a very solid bench forward that can give us some extra size that we desperately need.

I'd also like to correct a wild misrepresentation of our line-up -- Ausar is not a G of any type, and we have mostly SFs. Our current line up with Ivey injured is effectively

Holland is not a PF. More likely to be a SG. But he’s a pure wing.

We all want Beasley back on a multi-year.

Sasser isn't a 6th man. Maybe a backup pg, but he's really more of an undersized shooting guard.
Beasley is getting a good offer to come back. He's unrestricted, but he's been great and has detroit connections off the court.
Holland is a wing player. So is Ausar. I don't think you need to get too caught up in labels, but they are natural perimeter players. They can guard 1-3 any night and some 4's as well depending on the matchup. They are typically checking the best perimeter player without worrying about position. Neither can shoot at this point though so it's hard to call either "shooting guards". In my dream world where both start shooting 35% from 3, they would be the starting 2 and 3. We are a LONG way from that though.

I may differ a bit on Beasley -- I'd like to keep the offer to the taxpayer MLE amount to make sure it is a movable contract. I don't think Beasley is a long-term starter, and I don't want to get locked in to significant money for a backup G who can't really run the point.

Don’t understand the need of including DET here when the basic trade can go down between SAC and ATL and I would do that for sure.

Holland could be a long-term SG… he has a solid handle, aggressive driver, non-broken shot, quick hands.

Ausar would be wasted as a SG, he’s the guy you put on their best scorer that isn’t a center and let him clamp up. Shot is even further behind than Holland, but he’s a tenacious rebounder with some weird moves that seem to work (running middy in the lane, for example).

Those two can be the backbone of an incredible defense — but yeah, they need to get better on offense or it isn’t going to work out for them as starters together.

With the way the Kings have bounced back under Christie , it's looking like the 2025 1st may have a better chance to convey.
