Kevin Durant Believed To Prefer To Remain With Suns Past Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Feb 5, 2025 7:24 pm

Kevin Durant is believed to prefer not to be traded by the Phoenix Suns this week, according to reporting by Marc Stein and Jake Fischer at The Stein Line. This sentiment is held by Durant "to the extent that he can control it" according to the reporting.

Furthermore, Durant has "some serious reservations" about rejoining the Warriors. Durant left the Warriors in 2019 after an on-court altercation with Draymond Green, strife with Steve Kerr and the eventual tearing of his Achilles in Game 5 of The Finals.

Durant has since only reached the Conference Semifinals and has also reunited with Green, Stephen Curry and Kerr as part of USA Basketball.

The Warriors could "have the gumption" to still trade for Durant even if they believe he doesn't want to return to the team.

Of course! His return to GSW would solidify a total failure in the reason he left, which was to do it on his own. (Even though he was technically never alone, teaming up with Kyrie, Harden, Booker, Beal, etc.) He probably regrets leaving, but I don't believe he's comfortable siding back into that uniform. We'll see.

I don't blame him for not wanting to return. The Warriors roster is a mess and they need to rebuild.

True, but I don't think he would want to return either way. I'm assuming GSW would be adding significant vet-min deals over the summer if Steph and KD were on the roster. This season is lost, but they could put something together for next season.

I'm sure that played a major part in his dissatisfaction. But there was a lot of talk amongst media and fans that KD joining a 72-win team was dirty pool and that KD was just riding their coattails. KD left GSW with a general, "theses effers need me more than I need them" sentiment. He took his ball and went home.
