Infrequent Finalist Franchises - R2 - Fadeaway_J vs flaco*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:27 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Total: 87.8/88.0

We have a dominant inside-outside combo in Jokic-Penny with excellent shooting around them. Penny's explosive off-the-dribble game should be enhanced running handoffs with Jokic. Middleton is an awesome third option as he can space the floor for both superstars as well as do some creation of his own. Sheed should be very comfortable in this setting where he isn't expected to be a primary scorer and can focus on defending and spacing the floor. Defensively, we have a good much of size, speed, and versatility on the perimeter, while Sheed and Isaac provide the rim protection to complement the more ground-bound Jokic.

Matchup
- Base assignments will be Bridges-CP3, Penny-Green, Middleton-PG, Sheed-Giannis, Jokic-Porzingis. With his combination of size and quickness, Bridges is the perfect option to chase CP3 around screens. Sheed is much closer to his athletic prime than the versions normally used (he even played some SF in the chosen season), and should be able to make things tough for Giannis.
- In this matchup we will place more emphasis on Jokic's post game, which neither Porzingis nor Giannis is a good option to deal with. This will be a tough series for Porzingis in general as this version isn't a proficient guarding the pick-and-roll as he is now, so we can attack him in a variety of ways. Sheed is a willing and able enough shooter to punish Giannis if he overcommits to help on Jokic.

Good luck flaco.

Best of luck, Fade!

Rotations
PG: Chris Paul (36) / Antonio Daniels (12)
SG: Danny Green (24) / Mario Elie (24)
SF: Paul George (36) / Danny Green (12)
PF: Giannis (24) / P.J. Tucker (24)
C: Kristaps Porzingis (36) / Giannis (12)

Offense
Giannis surrounded by 4 volume 3pt shooters is unguardable. If the defense collapses, Giannis finds the open shooter on the perimeter. If they close out on Zinger, Giannis wreaks havoc 1-on-1 in the paint. CP3-Zinger running the PnP are equally unstoppable, especially since Jokic lacks the mobility to defend the 3pt line. PG13 is the ultimate complementary star. Fits with everybody without needing the ball in his hands to maximize his effectiveness.

Defense
All players on the roster are plus defenders, at the very least. Giannis and PG13 were all-D 1st teamers in their selected season. Green / Elie / Daniels share POA duties vs Penny. We go under the pick daring Penny to shoot the 3 mitigating the impact of Jokic in PnR or DHO actions. Giannis-Zinger complement each other in the front court. Giannis is a mobile help defender while Zinger is a terrific rim protector. They should give Jokic a run for his money.

Fit
Neither Jokic nor Sheed are comfortable defending in space. Jokic is at his best when paired with a mobile PF/swing who covers lots of ground quickly to provide defensive cover in space. For instance, Gordon, Jerami Grant or Millsap in real life. Mind you, none of these guys are rim protectors. They rely on their mobility which is Jokic's biggest weakness. In contrast, Sheed excelled at post-up defense (arguably Jokic's biggest strength on D). At 6'11'', I bet he would have been strictly a Center in today's game. Fade basically starts 2 drop bigs which is probably unsustainable in the modern era.

FGA

2021 Kristaps Porzingis 15.9
