Kevin Durant: I Just Didn't Want To Be Traded Midseason, Nothing Against My Time With Warriors

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:34 pm

Kevin Durant discussed his decision-making ahead of the trade deadline when he decided not to return to the Golden State Warriors when they essentially had a trade in place to acquire him from the Phoenix Suns. Malika Andrews specifically asked Durant to respond to comments made by Steve Kerr about what he believed led to his decision.

"I don't blame Kevin one bit for not wanting to rerun things here," Kerr told Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. "He took so much s--- for like, 'Oh, you're jumping on the bandwagon.' And then he's Finals MVP two years in a row. It's like he still gets criticized."

Durant disagreed with Kerr's assessment.

"People talk crazy about me all the time," said Durant. "That's not the reason why I didn't come back. I just didn't want to get traded midway through the season. It was nothing against my time with the Warriors, or I heard it was because I don't like Draymond. At the end of the day, I just didn't want to move. And I wanted to see it through with my team in Phoenix. And see what we can do through the rest of the season, so I'm glad I'm still there."

Durant was asked how the rest of the season with the Suns will shape his outlook for his future.

"You have to ask the front office about that. I never planned on leaving or getting traded. I didn't ask for a trade from Phoenix. But, obviously, when you pay so much for a team and we're not playing up to our expectation, someone has to go. Probably should check in with those guys in the front office throughout the rest of the season to see how they're feeling. I know I'm going to try to keep bringing my best every single day. I'll let the higher-ups focus on what's next."

I mean you did move mid season with the nets KD so not buying it and I think you had the nets better placed too.. As for the suns they didn't want to move you they wanted to move beal but he has a no trade clause and just refused to go so the team is stuffed and the only player they can move is you or booker of course but it's bookers team so it's KD they have to move.. What they would of got back would defo of helped in Butler and young players.. I personally would of liked to see the KD Butler Booker combo but we all have to put up with Beal not moving.

ahh yes, because someone did something 5 years ago he can never change his opinions anymore or judge the siutation differently based on that specific context... i like your way of thinking, sir.

i personally think, it was adam silver, the big bad NBA illuminati and the lakers lead by lebron, that didnt want the trade to happen. so everybody has to follow their wishes. but hey, thats just me.

They didn’t give Beal the no trade clause Washington did

Even tho it's true that Washington gave Beal his NTC, Suns might as well given it to him too, seeing that they traded for Beal and somehow did not negotiate the removal of this clause.

Well a few things.

1- Washington gave him the NTC.
2- The Suns wanted to "upgrade" from christopher, so they thought doing what Brooklyn did with Kyrie, KD, and Harden would work out. However, a small number of basketball purists knew this was a bad idea.
3- The owner thought this was 2K and was trying to turn off the salary slider.
4- KD walks, this team is now heading towards irrelevance and might as well trade Book too.

5 years ago lol.. Try 2023 mid season so 2 years ago.. That literally one basketball season difference, lol where he didnt get traded mid season. He obviously didn't want to go back to golden state warriors.. KD on the warriors now is not the same as KD joining the 73-9 warriors..

you cant be serious right now :D :D

kyrie didnt play for the nets and harden was fat, hurt and unmotivated and they didnt have a coach because kyrie didnt want a coach. ofc you will ask to be traded. every sane person in KDs position would do that
